The Ordinary concealer review

After trying The Ordinary’s Serum Foundation, I felt it would be great to try their concealer too. I bought it and then I just completely forgot I had this lying about to review it. So this is very late, but still, I thought we could still chat about The Ordinary Full Coverage concealer.

As I was looking up this product to see how much it costs, I found that as of the start of 2023 this product has been discontinued. Apparently the brand has decided to only focus on skincare and both the foundation and concealer have therefore been discontinued. However, some websites still seem to have some shades in stock, so it’s not completely gone.

Since this is discontinued discussing the price point probably doesn’t make much sense. But this was quite affordable, which is why I wanted to try it. It seems to cost about the same as the foundation: around the €6 price point. For that price any concealer that works is good in my book.

What does this concealer have to offer?

The only reason I wanted to try it was because I loved the foundation, but this is nothing like that. The foundation was lightweight, dewy and natural. This is full coverage and I had therefore heard quite a few people saying they didn’t like this. This is probably why I didn’t try this sooner. I just put it off.

In terms of texture this is surprisingly blendable for a full coverage product. While being full coverage this still looks natural and it came in a bunch of shades. The shade 1.1N was indeed a great shade for me. Due to the coverage all you need is a tiny dot of this to cover your entire face as well. I think that if you overuse this, it is going look like a cakey mess.

What does it look like on the skin?

When I use concealer I mainly want to cover up some redness on my face and my dark under eye circles. When using a small amount this can look nice and I also feel that using fingers is the way to go when blending this in. It works well with a brush too, but I have found that especially on the under eye area this needs the warmth of a finger to make it look okay.

Overall I find this wears well, looks natural and doesn’t pull into fine lines. It is a very pretty concealer and it is a shame this is no longer available. It’s perhaps a bit too full coverage for my liking but I think this could have appealed to many people if it had just gotten a fair shot. When this launched a few years ago, I don’t think full coverage was necessarily trending and I feel that’s what ended up hurting how this product was perceived by shoppers.

Should you buy The Ordinary concealer?

It’s been discontinued! So no of course not. But for me this also wasn’t perfect. I just want something a bit more lightweight. While this looks great I just know this will end up in my upcoming declutter.

One reason why I don’t want to keep this around is because I have plenty of concealers that I find easier to work with. This simply requires a bit more work to make it look nice.

Another downside to this is how little you use at a time. Not only do you not need a lot at a time (just a pea size amount), it also comes with 8ml of product. In short, it would take a life time to use this up and it would expire before I’d be able to get through it.
