By Terry Baume de Rose review

You know how there are these cult favorite makeup products that so many people rave about but that I just have never tried? One of those was the By Terry Baume de Rose liquid lip balm. This product has been raved about for ages, but it never appealed to me. Then I got it as a free gift with purchase and now I am happy to report to you why I am glad I didn’t spend my money on this one.

If you’ve never seen one of my reviews it may be good to know that I often have opposing opinions to the makeup crowds. Back when scented makeup was a thing and everyone was raving about the chocolate scent of Too Faced products I was just not here for it. In fact, I didn’t start using my Sweet Peach palette until 2 years after I purchased it as I found the scent too strong. And guess what’s the reason why I am glad I didn’t pay for this with my own money? Yup, it’s the scent.

Review: By Terry Baume de Rose liquid lip balm Mini On the Go

First things first, this is a mini of the original and this mini already retails for €18. Now it is a liquid lip balm of course, so that makes this a bit more special but I have used lip balms that are far cheaper than this that I feel get the job done. A full size retails for over €40 on most places. Not sure it’s worth that price tag.

What does this product have to offer?

What makes the By Terry Baume de Rose so iconic? I have heard so many beauty Youtubers raving about this, especially if they are into more luxury makeup. How lovely this is. How luxurious it feels. How nourishing it is for the lips. I have heard the spiel a million times over but what always put me off was the fact that this was described as having a ‘lovely rose scent’. I knew that would be bad news straight away.

What does this lip balm do for your lips?

Granted, this lip balm is a great one in terms of nourishment and how it feels. This is a clear, thin, lightweight product and the doe foot applicator makes it super easy to apply. I used this a few times as a day time lip balm before putting on lipstick and it worked really really well.

What I just didn’t like was that every time I used it, it smelled like I had just opened a perfume bottle. The rose scent on this is so strong that you can taste it. If you have ever accidentally sprayed perfume into your mouth, then you know what this feels like on the lips. So while pleasant, the heavy fragrance is what puts me off as I had predicted. What’s more, the scent lasts a good while and doesn’t disappear nearly as quickly enough as I’d like.

Should you buy the By Terry Baume de Rose liquid lip balm?

While the By Terry Baume de Rose lip balm is a great product I decluttered mine the first chance I got. I am glad I got to try it, but I am also glad I got it as a freebee gift with purchase. The rose scent is just too much for me and it gives me a headache.

The lip balm itself has a lovely texture, but I am not sure it is €40 lovely and so I find it a bit expensive for what it is. Granted, lip balm is something that usually lasts me a long time. I can easily use a single tube for close to a year even with daily use. So from that perspective you will get your cost per use out of this one for sure.

In the end, I just wished this came in a more neutral scent or at least had a scent that you smell and then disappears. Because this lingers, it makes me feel heady, the way I sometimes feel when I walk into a flower shop and my hayfever sets off. If you are less sensitive to scents this may be one for you, but for me this is a big no no.
