Who doesn’t love a comfortable lip product? I know I do! After falling in love with lipgloss as I was wearing masks, I soon found a love for all things comfortable lip products. Be it a tinted balm, or simply any formula that feels like it does a bit more than just sit there. In that vein I decided to try the EM Cosmetics Lip Cushion. Here’s how that went.
Spoiler alert: I didn’t love this. In fact, if you saw my most recent lip declutter you will know I already decided to pass it on. Hopefully I can explain in today’s review why the EM Cosmetics Lip Cushion just wasn’t my favorite.
EM Cosmetics Lip Cushion Tinted Lip Luminizer Lipstick Van Gogh
One reason why I knew I would be hard pressed to fall in love with this? The price point and availability. At $24 a pop this is quite expensive for what you get. Additionally, Em Cosmetics is a very expensive brand to shop from if you aren’t in the US. Their shipping and handling fees are quite up there else I would be trying more by the brand.
What does this lip product have to offer?
The reason why I wanted to try this? Because it sounded like something I could love. It is a lip balm but with color. At least that’s what I thought it was going to be as this boasts nourishing ingredients, a balm like texture and a glossy finish.
Did this product deliver on that promise? For sure! This is one of the most comfortable lip product I have ever tried. Then why didn’t I like this?
Why I didn’t love this product?
Reason no. 1: I didn’t love the shade! Van Gogh is described as a terracotta nude but of the shades available it looked like I might like it best. So that was a fail on my part.
But the real reason I didn’t love it: the texture. This melts as you are looking at it. You can’t twist it up too far and every time you use this, some product gets in the cap and it makes a right old mess. And if it does that in the packaging, then guess what happens to this once on the lips?
What does this look like in a swatch?
Now is this a horrible product? Not at all. The swatch was super promising. The texture feels great on the lips and the shade actually wasn’t that bad on me. I loved the glossy finish and I had high hopes for it for sure.
However, this being more like an overly lip balm than anything else it slid around and it transferred everywhere when wearing it. It was gone after just a glass of water and this being so melty it didn’t make for a great product to shuck into a bag to take with you on the go.
What’s more the packaging doesn’t allow you to twist back the lipstick. So whatever you twist up is what you have to use else this will just go everywhere. And I get why: this is simply too fragile of a product to twist up and down, but it made for a very messy application process every time I reached for it.
Should you buy the EM Cosmetics Lip Cushion in Van Gogh?
Even though I didn’t love this, I still think this product has a lot going for it. It has a great balmy texture, the shade selection is pretty nice and I love that glossy finish. I just wish the packaging was easier to manage and the product lasted a bit longer on the lips.
In the end the shade was a lot more flattering than I had expected but the level of pigment is too much for the formula. This slides around and goes outside the lip line once applied which makes it super obvious when it smudges and smudge it will.
While not perfect I think this product can be great for anyone who wants pigment but with a super comfortable formula. If you don’t mind messy packaging and comfort is your middle name you’d like this for sure.
