Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB review

Is it a BB cream or is it a foundation? I am not sure, but what it is is one of the weirdest makeup products I have ever come across. Not because it doesn’t look great or doesn’t apply well. Oh no, but because the texture of this product looks… questionable. Let me introduce you to the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB cream.

I am not even sure anymore why I initially selected this to try out as part of my great K-beauty BB Cream trial, but I somehow did. This is one of the weirdest textures I have come across in terms of a face product. So if you scroll down: I did warn you!

But before we get down to it, let’s discuss the price point and availability. As usual, I buy all my K-beauty products through Yesstyle as it is easy access. They simply have the widest selection and shipping and handling fees are very affordable. As is this product! At €15 this isn’t the cheapest base product I have tried, but it nicely fits into that mid tier drugstore price point.

What does this product have to offer?

Remember my warning? Yup, the way this product looks is not for the faint of heart. In a way the name is a forewarning, because this product looks like jelly that has set and then cut up into pieces then whisked around. It looks very unappealing and it makes me queasy every time I open up the bottle. The paddle spatula to scoop out the product doesn’t help either.

The only information I can find on this product that is in English is the following:

Containing 80% fresh mint water, this refreshing BB cream offers natural coverage while adding and retaining moisture, leaving your skin lustrous, dewy and firm.

What does this product swatch like?

While this is marketed as a BB cream, I feel that of all the K-beauty BB creams I have tried in this series so far, this one is the most like a foundation. While the texture looks weird, it does blend in easily and it feels very hydrating on the skin. There is a subtle glow to this, but please be warned: there are only 2 shades available.

What is the coverage like?

Coverage wise I am very happy with this. It is that perfect middle ground between coverage and a natural feel that I have come to expect with a BB cream. Leave it to the K-beauty world of beauty to create a product that gives you the effect of a makeup product but that has the feel of a skincare product.

What is the shade match like?

With only 2 shades available I was nervous this would be right for me. The shade is just a touch too yellow for me and it doesn’t help that I didn’t do a very good job blending this either for this super close up. However, you can barely tell where my skin starts in my neck and where the foundation stops. So yes, this is super blendable and the shade is actually decent for me.

Should you buy the Holika Holika Aqua Petit Jelly BB?

With an SPF of 20, a lovely skincare like feel and a natural look, I think this K-beauty BB cream has a lot going for it. I used it continuously for a week as the weather was heating up and even with warmer temperatures this held up well on my dry skin.

In fact, I feel great when I wear this. I just don’t feel great when I open up the bottle. you can see the product jiggle and wiggle inside and it just looks very gross when you scoop it out.

Yes it blends in beautifully and gives a glowy finish which are all things I love. So I cannot fault this product in the way it works, wears and looks. But I have too much makeup to be able to let something as trivial as the texture of the product slide.
