In my quest to find some more special fragrances, I slowly found myself veering towards more niche brands. One fragrance that instantly stood out to me after trying a tester was Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side Up. Here is my review.

If you could bottle summer, then this would be it. When I tried this as a tester I instantly loved it and it gave me instant summer vibes. I have been using it on and off for a few weeks now and sadly now that I own the full size I feel it just doesn’t last on me. Let me unpack the pros and cons of this fragrance.
Perfume review: Juliette Has a Gun Sunny Side Up
So this fragrance sounds like it is going to be a perfect fragrance for me. It has a woodsy, floral scent to it and it is a bit of a marmite one: some people love this and some people don’t. The scent itself is definitely different and therefore not for the masses.
I had heard of Juliette Has a Gun years ago, but had never tried them. This one came onto my radar when I was looking for things that were a bit more unique to branche out my perfume collection. At €95 for a 50 ml bottle (depending on where you buy) this is definitely a bit more expensive when it comes to fragrance, but it’s definitely more of an entry level niche fragrance brand.
How did I experience this perfume?
Sunny Side Up has the following notes (according to Fragrantica):
- Top: Vanilla Absolute, Amyris, Jasmine
- Middle: Sandalwood, Coconut Milk, Orris Root, Jasmine
- Base: Iso E Super, Ambrette (Musk Mallow)
I definitely find there is a hint of sharpness when you first spray this on. It’s something I have experience with jasmine in fragrance before, but because it is surrounded by some warmer notes, I feel the sharpness is lost quickly and it becomes a warm, creamy hug. It reminds me most of the scent of sunscreen at the beach.
However, I experience that this just doesn’t last very well on the skin. I think it’s because of the spray nozzle. When I had a tester, the spray nozzle was quite standard, but my full size bottle has a nozzle that spreads out the fragrance as a mist, which means you just don’t use as much. So I feel I smell this for about 3 – 4 hours, but it doesn’t last a full workday.
That’s a shame, because this is one of the more expensive fragrance I own and I feel that I am not getting the wear time out of this that I would expect. Does it smell nice? For sure and if you love that summer fragrance than this is a great one. It is creamy and milky with a lovely fragrance that I love wearing this time of year. I will certainly use it more but I was disappointed with it just a little bit.
