I was super excited to see Catrice do a cream bronzer as part of their new Fall/ Winter 2024 collection update. I haven’t seen Catrice do a cream bronzer in a while and I was very curious to see what this would be like.
The reason why I was so curious after this bronzer is because Catrice can do a good bronzer. But they can also be hit and miss. The powders are usually okay, but the creams? I haven’t had lots of luck with Catrice cream products in the past, so I was happy to see them attempt it again.
Review: Catrice Melted Sun Cream Bronzer 020 Beach Babe
Let’s talk price point first of all and this being a Catrice product we all know this is going to be affordable. At €4.95 this is pretty cheap and cheerful and what’s even better: this was already launched in the US as well. This was launched in the EU last August but in the latest Catrice drop in the US this was also already made available. You can buy Catrice in the US through their official US website.
What does this cream bronzer have to offer?
So this greatly reminds me off the Make Up Revolution cream bronzer which I really liked last month. This Catrice one is only available in 2 shades though, the MUR is available in many more. 020 Beach Babe is the lightest shade and it looks very dark.
It should give a sunkissed look, while being easy to apply and blending in seamlessly for a natural look. The bronzer should be buildable in intensity, dry down to a matte finish and can both contour and bronze up the face.
What does this product swatch like?
You can understand my surprise to see how intense this looked in a full on finger swatch. This is intense. It not only is very pigmented, it is also quite dark, slightly green toned AND too warm. So this was a disaster waiting to happen, or so I thought.
However, what I found in using this is that it sheers out beautifully. It is warm toned which makes it a bronzer for me and not a contour at all. But it works really well if I apply some on the back of my hand and then using a flat kabuki brush (I use the Spectrum B01 for my cream bronzer) and it looks great on.
What does this bronzer look like applied to the face?
Here you can see the before and after. You can see how natural this looks once applied. It only applies a sheer wash of color so it is definitely not that intense as in the swatch. I prefer to pick it up with my fingers first, dab it on the back of my hand and then use the brush to apply.
Another reason why I prefer this more elaborate application method is the fact that this dries down in the pan. I have never used a cream product that gets hard pan, but this does. Once you have used it and leave it for a few days, the pan seals up. But when you use the warmth of your fingers you can easily warm it back up and it is ready for use.
Should you buy the Catrice cream bronzer?
As far as a cream bronzer by Catrice goes, this is one of the best ones they have ever done. That said, this is very similar to the Make Up Revolution cream bronzer I reviewed last month and that is only slightly more expensive, while being a bit easier to use.
So to me it is really a choice between these two. If you need a more extensive shade range, the Make Up Revolution may be the best one. If you like the look of this and Catrice is easier for you to buy and you want a good cream bronzer, then definitely try this one.
