I Can’t Stop Raving…

You read that right. I thought it would be time again for a music related post. If you read some earlier posts on this blog, you will have found blogs on mostly indie bands and some new folk artists, as well as my favorite dance trackscover songs and songs that match my mood. What I haven’t blogged about is my love for all things house, techno, and rave, especially the old 90s stuff.

This will most likely seem strange to most people reading this. I’m not what you would call your typical rave girl. However, I have always enjoyed a good beat. I blame years of dance classes and going clubbing since I was 15. This doesn’t really explain why I specifically like techno, house and rave from the early 90s. See, in 1990, I was only 6 years old. Not really the age at which you go to rave parties and dance to repetitive beats till the crack of dawn. No, my love affair with all things 120 bpm and up stems from this song:

When I was 7 or 8, one of my uncles got me a CD with different styles of music on it. It was called: Dance on and on different styles. It was some freebee CD, but as it was one of the first CDs I owned and I played it to bits. The techno song above, Human Resource’s Dominator was one of my favorite songs on that CD. So I guess the seeds had been sown long before I would ever set foot in a club.

Another favorite from that CD was the following 1992 house track:

By the time I was 15 I went to a club for the first time. In 1999, trance house was all the rage over here (with Tiësto’s rise to fame in tow). Soon after, trance evolved into hard trance, which in turn became hard style. By the time I went clubbing on a regular basis, hard style was the norm in the places I frequented and many hard style songs are actually remixes of these old house, rave and techno songs or at least heavily based on them. So you can imagine my enjoyment when I found that the original mixes (which I couldn’t find back in 2003/ 2004) are now only a mouse click away by the help of youtube.

So all that rests me is to say: remember these?

  1. LOL!!!!
