Song Challenge 02 – Your Least Favorite Song

I had the hardest time coming up with a song I truly truly despise. My conclusion: if I hate a song, I don’t have it/ won’t listen to it/ avoid it and therefore forget all about its existence. That is why I went with a song that I absolutely detest, not because I hated it in the first place, but because I’ve heard it so many times that I really can’t be bothered hearing it anymore. And that song would be: Backstreet Boys – I Want It That Way.

Now, it’s no secret that I’ve been a Backstreet Boys’ fan since I was 11 years old and that I still sort of like them. However, I dislike this song more than I can possibly explain. I simply heard it too much. That song was everywhere back in 1999 and I was exhilarated when it was released to radio. I remember taping it from the radio the first time it played and playing it continuously until the album was released. It was the only thing I listened to for over a month (I was 14 people…).

Needless to say, what happened to this song was overkill: I played it continuously, it was on the radio. all over the music video stations and to this day, BSB still does this song at gigs. That’s the ONLY time I still voluntarily listen to this song. Whenever it comes on my playlist (I don’t even think it’s in there anymore), I skip it and whenever I feel nostalgic and listen to some old BSB songs, IWITW is definitely NOT one of them.

  1. I’m somewhat surprised it’s THAT song for you… but I fully understand hearing a song so many times that you get sick of it, no matter how good it might have been to begin with. Stuff can get soooooo overplayed…

Right now for me (and most people in the States), I think it would be that Rebecca Black song “Friday”… and all of it’s parodies, as well. The song is horrible, the girl’s singing is horrible, but it’s catchy enough to get stuck in your head, even if you’ve only listened to a piece of it (like I did because they aired it on a show I was watching)…
