FOTD: Blackened purple (incl. tutorial in description)

I rarely make a make up look that I feel is awesome enough to redo just to take pictures of it and show it on this blog. Last week however, it happened. I grabbed a few random eyeshadows that I had lying about and felt I should use again and voilá: this is the result. It’s quite a dark look combining black and purple and a bit of shimmer, but it’s still very wearable if you ask me. In fact, I simply wore this to work. I did have someone compliment me on it though, asking me whether I had it done at a make up counter… Eh no, I did it myself. This post includes a bit of a tutorial element: I will also show you all products and tools which I’ve used to create this look, step by step. Enjoy!

And yes, I still had to do my eyebrows at this point. Fun fact: I got that sorted later in the day, so now I’m walking around with well-groomed eyebrows again. More make up looks (for Christmas) coming up later this weekend, so stay tuned!

Here’s how I made the look and all the products I used:

Step 1: Eyebrows & Priming

I fill in my brows with MAC’s Omega eyeshadow, using an angled brush by HEMA. I set my brows with the clear eyebrow gel, also from HEMA. Then I take the Garnier Caffeine Roller and roll some on my puffy lower lids. I pat it in and apply some Too Face Shadow Insurance on my upper lids.

Step 2: The Face

I put a squirt of MAC’s Face & Body Foundation in C1 on a try and apply it with my The Body Shop Foundation Brush. Next, I take some MAC’s Select Moisture Cover concealer in NW20 and mix it in with some Benefit High Beam liquid highlighter. I use my ring finger to apply some onto my dark circles and under eye area. I set my foundation and concealer with the MAC Prep & Prime Transparent pressed finishing powder and the ELF Studio Line Powder Brush.

Step 3: Eye make up

I start with a fluffy eyeshadow brush (Hema) and a matte cream/ off white eyeshadow by The Body Shop in no. 13 (top right). Secondly, I take another fluffy eyeshadow brush (by Sephora) and apply L’Oreal Infallible Eyeshadow in no. 555 Perpetual Purple all over my eyelid. Using my pencil brush by Sigma (E30), I apply some of MAC’s Mineralized eyeshadow in Invincible Light (Heavenly Creatures LE) in my inner corner. I use the same shadow and a fluffy blending brush (HEMA) to lightly dust some of this color all over my eyelid.

Taking my Sigma crease brush (E45) and the Catrice Intensif’Eye Wet & Dry Shadow in 010 Black or White Swan?, I apply this shimmery black color into my crease. I use the smokey eyes brush by Essence to apply this same shadow in my outer V and on my bottom lash line. I use Sigma E40 blending brush to blend out the colors. Lastly, I take some of MAC’s fluidline eyeliner in Blacktrack with my Sigma E10 eyeliner brush to apply some gel eyeliner to my upper lashline.

Step 4: Finishing touches

I use my blush brush by The Body Shop and Benefit’s Coralista blush to add some color to my face. I add some mascara (the One by One by Maybelline in black) to my lashes and some Rosebud Menthol and Eucalyptus lip balm to my lips and I’m all set.
