Maybelline Fit Me foundation

Foundation: the worst make up product on the planet. I’ve only been using foundation since September because I had never found a foundation that actually fit me. I had bought a few, but never wore them. Mostly because the color was too dark and I didn’t want to spend a fortune buying drugstore foundations (which often don’t have testers) to find one that did have the right color. I ended up going to MAC and bought the Face & Body foundation. I need a pink undertone in my foundation, but since the lightest shade (NW15) is even too dark for me in winter, I had to go with the yellow undertone, which in Face & Body is called C1. That still wasn’t a perfect match, but well blended I could make it work. My MAC foundation was slowly running out and since I now had gotten used to using foundation, I thought I’d try a drugstore foundation again, just to give it another shot. So when my drugstore had a sale on Maybelline products and hearing great reviews about their Fit Me foundation, I purchased it hoping this would be the first drugstore foundation that would work.

The start looks very promising: the bottle is sleek and clean looking, made of glass and very sturdy. Here, the bottle also comes with a pump (which is a definite plus) and I like how you can easily see the color in the bottle. The only stickers are the name of the foundation on the cap and the color number on the bottle itself. Love the packaging.

I went with the lightest shade available in The Netherlands: 115 ivory. There was no tester of the foundation at the time I bought it, but there was one of the concealer with the same number and when I watched it in the store it looked promising enough. The texture is very thick and creamy and it feels very nice and smooth on the skin.

But as you can see in the picture: when trying to blend this with the skin on my hand it is too dark. And that wasn’t only the first problem I had with this foundation. It wasn’t only too dark on my hand, on my snowy white face it was even darker, but it also gave me an allergic reaction.

Allergic reactions to cosmetics never act up instantly in my case. It usually takes a few hours. When I first tried this on with a full face of make up, I wore it for 3 hours and then it started: an itch along my jawline that started to spread across my cheeks upwards. It became worse by the minute, but I was at lunch with a friend and I had nothing on me to take it off. I took off the foundation when I was home with my usual cleanser and my face became bright red and my skin felt hot as if burnt by the sun.

To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. If it were just too dark I could have blended it with a lighter foundation and make it work, but since it gave me an allergic reaction there is nothing I can do with it. I also have no clue what caused the allergic reaction, though it is nothing new to me as I get a similar reaction (though not as heavy) to most skincare products. I know someone who still wants to try this though, so hopefully it can go to a nice home and I won’t have to throw it away.

I’m not saying that you shouldn’t buy this foundation or that it’s bad. It just doesn’t work for me. I just wanted to share my experience with you and show you that this shade does not with light skin and that if you have sensitive skin like me, it’s best to try it out before you buy it.

What is your experience with the Maybelline Fit Me foundation?

  2. I tried the same shade in Ivory and I got pustules all over my face and my eyelids puffed up. So sad. I don’t know what they put in this stuff that does this!!

  3. Just tried this shade myself and I am so disappointed. Fortunately no bumps, but my nose has been itching all day and my skin started to feel sun burnt after a few hours. It got dry and flaky looking which usually isn’t the case with liquid foundation. Had to wash it off at work and now my skin is splotchy red. Really pissed that I just spent money on a makeup that hurt my skin.

  4. I also had an allergic reaction to this foundation!
It`s a pity, because I really liked the finish on my skin.
However, I didn’t have problems with the fit me concealer.
