Music of the Moment (October 2013)

This post is a bit of a cheat, as I haven’t been listening too a whole lot of new music. I simply haven’t had the time! So these songs were all acquired and listened to during the summer months, but they all quickly made my shortlists so they have been on whenever my shuffle decides to play them. This time, there’s a little bit of everything: slow, relaxed, uptempo, fun, etc. So I hope you enjoy this batch of 15 songs that I have been enjoying.

Feist X Timber Timbre – Homage

If you like harmonies and acoustic guitars this is for you. Or if you like Feist. And if you don’t know who she is, then shame on you!

Franz Ferdinand – Can’t Stop Feeling/ I Feel Love

Ultimate summer 2013 memory for me: Franz Ferdinand at Pukkelpop. And then this song in particular. I just love how these two songs blend so well together.

Galimatias – Strawberries (Original Mix)

Chillwave song to the max with a few breakbeats here and there, but overall it’s a very minimalistic vibe.

Hadouken – Daylight (Drummsound & Bassline Smith Ft. Hadouken!)

Like drum & bass? Like dubstep? But you like it all to be a tad more melodic? Enter Hadouken. Plus any band that names itself after a move in Super Street Fighter Turbo II for the SNES is ace in my book.

Jacques Greene – On Your Side (Ft. How To Dress Well)

Happy, chipper song. Has a slight 2 step vibe to it.

Lane 8 – Without You

Relaxed club type song with a bit of a retro vibe added through the vocals. Simple yet majestic.

London Grammar – Metal & Dust (Switch Remix)

A remix of a song by one of the most highly anticipated new artists of 2013. Great vocals, dancy vibe. Makes you wish the summer would last just a tad bit longer.

Natasha Kozaily – The Tiniest Elephant in the World

A story in a song. That’s what this is. I love her voice. I feel that makes the song. It has something quirky that keeps the song from becoming mundane, yet it’s still pleasant to listen to.

NONONO – Pumpin Blood

Another happy song. But that’s just because of the whistle. Oh and the fact that it makes you want to sing along at the top of your lungs. That too.

Robby Hunter Band – Hard on Me

One of the poppier songs in the list. Easy listening music, with happy vibes and catchy lyrics? Keep em coming!

Terracotta Blue – Forever

A bit of jazzanova mixed with some chill and something a tad eerie and melancholic. This song is not that easy on the ears but it is interesting nonetheless. Up for download from soundcloud.

The Neighbourhood – How

This isn’t the first time I’m featuring one of their songs on this blog. The song is dark with its slow, dragging beat and melancholic vocals. Perfect for when the weather is moody and the rain is clattering against your window.

The Night VI – Thinking of You

Easy listening indie pop. The vocals have something esoteric and floaty. Yet, by the time chorus rolls around also powerful enough to carry the song.

Tourist – Tonight

Chillwave to the max. I love me some Tourist: break beats, morphed vocals and a dreamy texture. Hmmm. All I need is a cup of tea and a good book and I’m gone.

Tube & Berger – Imprint Of Pleasure

A slightly more dance type song, that is borderline house, yet still quite relaxed as well. I love the simple acoustic riff.

What are your current favorite songs? I’m curious to know!
