My favorite Christmas movies

It’s almost Christmas which means it’s time to cuddle up, get cozy, eat food and watch movies. I’ve been having myself a downright Christmas movie marathon this past weekend and there’s a few favorites that I simply have to watch. Christmas just wouldn’t be the same without it.

1.) National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation

This is a family favorite. I remember watching this at home with my brother and my parents when I still lived at home and if it’s on around or on Christmas Day we will simply make way to watch it again. It’s incredibly cheesy and the fashion choices are interesting to say the least (it was released in 1989!). If you like seeing every Christmas cliché come by, but then all go wrong in good old Griswold style, then you are going to like this.

2.) A Muppet Christmas Carol

The original story of Mr. Scrooge as first told by Dickens in A Christmas Carol, but with a Muppet twist. Michael Caine is the only actor in this movie (apart from all the muppets of course) and he’s absolutely brilliant. I used to watch this with all the kids when I worked secondary school during the last few lessons before Christmas break and they always loved it, no matter how old they were. I like it so much that I even had my parents tape it onto DVD for me when it came on TV a few years ago.

3.) Home Alone 1 & 2

Then on to a childhood favorite: Home Alone. I never went beyond 1 and 2, but I still love the original two movies. I was about as old as the boy in these movies when I first saw them and that definitely helped in the love for these movies. And on a more current note: Macaulay Culkin (Kevin in the movie) just started a Velvet Underground cover band called The Pizza Underground…

4.) Gremlins 1 & 2

I hadn’t seen these in a while and had quite forgotten all about them, but Gremlins are a great movie as well. Both the original AND the sequel. And to think that this was done pre-CGI as well… Not that Christmassy perhaps, but the movies are set around Christmas time and that makes it valid for me.

What are your favorite Christmas movies?
