Budget make up shoplog

After doing the Princess tag in January, I found out that I don’t have that many super high end make up products. Nor do I have that many true budget items either. I decided that especially the latter needed to change. Thus, I embarked on a trip to my local drugstore and bought a few budget items to try. All products are Essence and Catrice, with most from the latter brand as it appeals to me more. I came away with several items. What? That’s what this post is for and then later this week you will see a make up look where I’ve used most of these products. In the next couple of weeks I will make sure to write full reviews on all this goodness.

All shopped goodness together in one picture

(I forgot how much all the items cost, sorry if you’re missing prices!)

Essence kabuki brush & false lashes

I had been curious about the Essence kabuki brush ever since it launched, but never bought it. I have one by ELF and love that one, but this time I just couldn’t help my curiosity and bought it. I like the brush, but don’t love it. The hairs of my ELF brush are much softer and I don’t think this will be beating my ELF kabuki brush. Let’s see how I like it though. I don’t have that many false lashes and these looked a) interesting and b) cost next to nothing. And I like having a few pairs on hand just in case I need them.

Catrice Eyebrow Set

I heard good things about this budgetproof brow powder from several blogs and so I picked it up. There are two well pigmented powders in the container: one light and one dark, so this is for everyone. Neat little detail: the bottom slides open to reveal a mini spooly, brush and tweezers!

Catrice Made to Stay highlighter pen in 010 Eye Like

A quick and easy brow and inner corner highlight that is easy for one the go. That’s what I’m hoping this will be. I have something similar by Benefit, but that is a stark, matte pink shade which is a bit too pink for me. This appears to be more of a pinky champagne color and it’s shiny!

Catrice Made to Stay Inside Eye highlighter pen

After hearing rave reviews of this product on LiveLifeGorgeous, I wanted to try this. I’ve tried white and flesh tones on my water line, but I’m not a big fan of either one. Something a bit more pink would probably be even better. Let’s see whether it is.

Catrice All Matt Plush Shine Control Powder in Translucent

Catrice Multi Colour compact powder for lighter skin

Another thing my collection lacked was a budget powder. So I took home two. One that is translucent and one that has some color to it. Will they mattify my face and keep my powder in place? Stay tuned the next couple of weeks to find out.

Catrice Camouflage Cream in 010 Ivory

Catrice All Matt plus foundation in 010 light beige

Face products such as concealer and foundation are a feat to find in the drugstore with my lighttoned skin. Most foundations (even at MAC) are too dark for me, even in the lightest colors. But since I have been experimenting with my foundations a bit lately, I thought I’d give this a shot. I bought the lightest colors in both products. We’ll see how we’ll fare.

Swatches (from left to right)

Inside eye highlighter pen, highlighter pen, concealer, foundation, multi colour powder, matt translucent powder

I also gave all products a quick swatch. Doesn’t look too shabby huh?

Do you have any experience with any of these products?

  1. Ik heb de concealer en de highlighter pen. Concealer is top!

  2. Makes me want to go shopping with you again. Getting a light shade is a problem for me too – you’d think they’d fix that by now?

I really need to start blogging again!
