In my spare time, I occasionally like to experiment with make up. Last summer, as I was traveling around Europe I bought quite a few make up bits. It was the only thing small enough to fit in my bag and so I stocked up majorly. I wanted to use some of these products to see how they would work on my face and so I experimented one day with two gel eyeliners I bought during my trip. The result is this wearable, yet not so every day look.
First of all, I look so tan in these pictures! But that’s not what’s important, what’s important is the look. I decided to pair a bold eyeliner look with a bold lip. I am not much of a winged eyeliner wearer. I am very lazy when it comes to eyeliner. I don’t have a massive amount of lid space and so I often find it takes away from my eye make up rather than enhance it. As you can also see in the close up pictures below, the fold of my lid goes out pretty far, which makes making a wing near impossible unless I draw the thinnest line known to men, or lay it on very thick. In other words, this look only reaches its full potential if I keep my eyes closed. Which is of course, not a great situation to be in.
In any case, for this eye look, it’s all about the liner. I created a winged eyeliner using a turqoise gel eyeliner by Pupa. I then used a metallic coppery gel eyeliner from a MAC limited edition to line along the top of the turquoise liner and at the bottom of the wing. I always see people doing these things on youtube and I wanted to give it a try. I think it’s not too bad looking after all! The metallic eyeliner was a nightmare to work with though. It’s very chunky and dispenses little flecks of product rather than a neat line. It took ages to get even. I finished off the eye look with some eyeliner pencils in a coppery brown tone as to keep this wearable and not too overpowering on the metallic shine.
Since I only went with liner in this look, I thought a bright neon pink lip would be perfect for lifting everything to a new level. And so we enter the realm of MAC’s Candy Yum Yum. This might very well be my favorite lip color for summer. It’s so bright and out there! I do think the pink sets off nicely against the turquoise liner, where the copper metallic brings a bit of shine and neutralizes that bold color. All in all, I think this is a fun and colorful make up look that would be great if you’d be going to the appropriate occasion. I do think that if I were to walk in to work wearing this it would be very much out of place. Wearable? Yes? Work appropriate? Nah.
