Tuned up Thursday: Music ABC – N

Time to dig through the vaults of my music collection again and come up with some of my all time favorite songs. There are quite a few songs in here today that are quite new. Only one, true golden oldie and then there’s some classic 90s R&B for you to swoon by. I hope you enjoy and have a great day!

New Beat – Toro Y Moi

Toro Y Moi make music that are perfect for creating that ‘summer feeling’. This song in particular always gets me in the mood for sunny beaches and cocktails for some reason. They have a new album coming out next week and so far they funk and disco influences seem to have been turned up a notch. I like!

Night Terror – Laura Marling

Another artist who just recently released a new album is Laura Marling. This song however, is on her debut album and still one of my favorites by her. The eerie video helps to set the mood just perfectly.

Night They Drove Old Dixie Down – Joan Baez, The

From new folk, we’re moving on to old folk. Joan ‘Ain’t Gonna Let Nobody Turn Me Around’ Baez, does her version of this classic song and I have always liked this version best.

No Church in the Wild – Kanye West & Jay Z (Ft. Frank Ocean)

I don’t listen to a lot of rap music, but when I do, I will become obsessed with one song or one artist for a bit. This video is scary (but that’s exactly the point), but the song instantly resonated with me when I heard it. From the beat to the anger that is pent up inside it, combined with some lovely vocals by Frank Ocean, this track is a keeper.

No One Else Comes Close (Original) – Joe

Lastly, I thought I’d share with you a guilty pleasure. I love myself some 90s R&B. I know this song because it was also recorded and released by Backstreet Boys for their 1999 album Millennium. It wasn’t until years later that I found out that the original recording artist is Joe and I love his original even better than the one by ‘my boys’.
