Lookbook spring 2015: A stripe ought to do it

Time for the monthly fashion look book. Spring is still not really happening here, so some of these outfits are bit too ‘sunny’ for the weather we’ve been having. Just this week I went into work wearing a sweater with 2 layers. But since spring is so finicky, I decided to throw in a range of outfits, from something you can wear on a warm day, to something that is perfect for cooler days that will keep you warm when it’s grey and pouring down with rain.

Most of the outfits are quite simple because the stripes have to do the talking. So I paired it mostly with denim and neutrals and I tried to incorporate some pops of color here and there. I also tried to incorporate stripes in different ways. However, I mostly own striped tops and dresses and I wanted to change it up, but without owning too many bottoms, I found it hard to come up with very different looking outfits.

1.) Pop of neon

Striped longsleeved shirt (H&M)
Acid wash Leigh jeans (Topshop)
Neon espadrilles (H&M)
Shamrock necklace (Souvenir from Dublin)

This first outfit I wore almost to a T the day after I shot these pictures. The only thing I changed up were the shoes because the weather was too bad for me to be wearing these. The jeans are new and I am so happy I now finally own a pair of acid wash jeans that fit me. I find they add a casual touch to any outfit and it goes nicely with the basic sweater. They are what makes the outfit work in my opinion.

2.) Pink vs black

Striped cropped button down (Monki)
Black tank top (H&M)
Pink Joni jeans (Topshop)
Black studded biker ankle boots (Sacha)
Statement necklace (Primark)

Me and this outfit go back a while. This is one of those outfits that I wear at least a few times a year. The pictures don’t really do the pants justice. In real life the pink is not as nude as it shows up in these pictures. The blouse is very boxy and thus only goes with super tight, super skinny jeans or skirts. And vertical stripes are more difficult to pull off for me than horizontal. However, this outfit works for me every time I wear it and I will keep on wearing it for a while to come.

3.) Double denim & red

Denim blouse (C&A)
Stripy t-shirt (Forever 21)
Acid wash jeans skirt (River Island)
RedΒ  faux coral necklace (gift from friend)
Red belt (H&M)
Nude wedge strappy sandals (Van Haren)

This may be my favorite outfit I put together. Red is my favorite color and I love pairing it with black and white outfits for an extra pop of color. Double denim is something I am still trying out to see whether I like it, and I think that in this way it does work out nicely. Because the outfit already has quite a bit going on I kept the shoes neutral. I love wearing nude shoes in spring/ summer when I do not wear tights as it doesn’t clash too much with my skin tone.

4.) Show ’em legs

Flowy striped top (Urban Outfitters)
Highwaisted denim shorts (Topshop)
Blue heels (Van Haren)
Ring (Passed down from my grandma)

I love showing off my legs when the weather warms up. I like my legs, despite the fact they are so pale they reflect sunlight. They simply do not tan at all and so I gave up ages ago. But I still like showing a bit of leg and this outfit is all about it. I wore heels to help my legs look their best and I find that the shorts are short, but not too short. The flowy top gives a bit of flare to the outfit.

5.) Jersey A-line dress

Striped A-line jersey t-shirt dress (Asos)
Strappy black & white heels (Sacha)
Neon orange belt (H&M)
Necklace (birthday gift)

Last but not least, you know I would have to include a dress. I am only just trying out A-line dresses and I am still a bit unsure whether it is a flattering shape for my body type. I feel that if I belt it to accentuate my waist a bit more, it works on my curvy frame. I do love the dress though and it wasn’t too expensive so I got a good deal to try out something new.

How do you wear stripes?

  1. Hello, I’m looking for these neon espadrilles (H&M) to buy them! Maybe by some chanse your’e selling them? Whats the size then? πŸ™‚
If so, please, respond to the email, thanks! Nice combinations!

  2. […] I picked up this skirt from ASOS, but the brand is River Island, again. I seem to be able to find quite a few fun skirts from that place. In any case, I was all out of denim skirts and when I saw this I figured is was more edgy than country and so I picked it up. I used to have a few denim skirts, but I never felt they looked right on me. It’s basic color makes it goes with everything and I love the detail of the buttons down the front. It adds to the vibe of the skirt and I love wearing this with a skirt. Just like wearing jeans and t-shirts but a tad different. Click here to see it on. […]
