Make up can be used in so many different ways and I find that the ‘current way’ (i.e. Instagram brows, strong contours, strong lips etc) is a little bit overdone and extreme. What ever happened to using make up to enhance your face in a subtle way? Sure a full on glam look is fun to create (I love doing those on my days off to play around with color and see what I come up with), but not very practical for every day. So I figured: why don’t I step it down a notch and show my favorite items for a no make up, make up look.
No make up make up products
No make up make up is the best way for making yourself look a little bit more put together with only a few products that is geared towards creating a better version of yourself. I feel that a no make up make up look, should be simple, using only products that enhance your natural features and is not overdone. To me, a no make up make up look uses as little face products as possible. Just a little bit of concealer and powder complemented with colors that suit your skin tone, eyes and lips.
MAC Mineralized Skin Finish Natural in Medium
For a no make up make up look, I start with applying a base. I keep it simple: a bit of concealer on my under eye area in the same color as my skin tone. I then powder my face with this MAC MSF Natural. The advantage of MSF Natural is that is has a little bit of coverage to it. It is easy to apply again throughout the day if need be and thus it makes for an effortlessly flawless look.
MAC Extra Dimension blush in At Dusk
NARS Sex Appeal
For the cheeks I would keep things simple. I would avoid shimmer and glow as well as bronzers. A light colored blush (or one that is more flattering on your skin tone) works best and is all you need. Since I am fairly pale I love using these dusty pink shades for a hint of color that is not too noticeable.
Maybelline Brow Drama in dark blond
Brows wise you can keep them as is, but I find that mine do need a little bit of help. A tinted brow gel can then help groom them and keep them in place. The gel will help define your natural brow hairs at the same time and if you have a few stray blonde hairs in their like me, you will also end up with more defined brows.
L’Oreal Butterfly False Lash effect mascara
Mascara is the only product I feel you really cannot do without. Whether you are doing an elaborate eye look, or go for something subtle and basic, mascara will always make things better. Mascara completes any eye look and thus is a must have no matter what look you’re creating.
Bourjois eyeshadow 71 Or Raffine, 16 Ambre Nude, 05
For they eyes you can do a little bit more. You can keep them bare if you’d like of course, or you could apply one single color all over the lid and let that be that. But I feel you can get away with a little bit more eyeshadow wise, as long as you keep the colors light and not too sparkly. These ones by Bourjois I have had for a long time, but especially Ambre Nude is that perfect your lids but better shade.
Catrice Absolute Rose eyeshadow palette
Now this palette received a lot of slack from people because the shadows are soft and colors are barely there. But guess what?! That’s what makes this perfect for a barely there eye look. The rosy shades blend nicely into my skin tone so I find this palette great for created a slightly more defined eye while keeping it not too over done. This palette deserves more love!
Sephora singles in Creme Caramel, Suede, Sunkissed
In my early make up days, when I wasn’t all that daring yet, I loved using these eyeshadows together. By now I have chucked Creme Caramel as I have found better eyeshadows that work better on my eye. I can’t chuck the other two just yet though. Sunkissed is a pretty all over lid shade and Suede is perfect in the crease.
L’Oreal Color Riche L’Extraordinaire liquid lipstick in 600 Nude Vibrato
Revlon Lip Butter in Berry Smoothie
NYX Butter Gloss in Vanilla Creme Pie & Maple Blondie
Finally there’s lips. Also on the lips, I feel you shouldn’t go to crazy if you’re doing a no make up make up look. It is tempting to go in with a matte neutral lip and top it up with gloss, but why would you if you can pick a lip color close to your own that adds a hint of shine? I feel that these 4 products do just that.
How would you create a no make up make up look?
