It’s that time of year where parties are in abundance and that means searching for the right outfit. Not that I need to because my wardrobe contains plenty of party friendly outfits. For today’s blog post I decided to pull out 5 of my favorite dresses that I think could make great party outfit.
My best party dresses
Tadah! This is them. Dresses always look a bit drab on a hanger, but it all depends on how you style them. I will give tips on what/ how I would wear these and I will link to a few to show you how I style them. Next week, I am planning to have a proper Christmas lookbook up, so stay tuned for that.
Aubergine faux wrap dress (Vila)
This first dress is one I have had for years, but I feel totally works for this year’s party season as (faux) wrap dresses are all the rage right now. The material on this dress is quite shiny and a mock satin which drapes around the body very nicely and highlights everything you want to highlight while hiding that which you want to hide. I wore this dress in one of my first ever lookbooks, which I created three years ago. I still like pairing this with black boots and tights, but I no longer love chunky, flashy necklaces like I did back then. Right now, I would much rather style it with some simple silver jewelry.
Grey skater dress (H&M)
Even though this dress look super duper boring this way, it is actually a great piece for dressing up. I was absolutely sure that I wore this dress in some post on here, but I can’t find it anywhere. However, it is one of my favorite dresses, precisely because it is so versatile. Depending on the shoes you wear this with, and how you accessorize it, you can make this dress totally party proof. The fact that this comes with a large V-split on the back only adds to the bit of pizzazz this has.
Faux leather body con dress (H&M)
Bodycon is always a great type of dress style to wear. It doesn’t always suit me, but this dress is one of the exception. I do have to wear some sort of Spanx underneath it to make it look okay, but wearing that is worth the discomfort for one night. This dress has a bit more spunk than the previous two because of the faux leather front, but instantly makes this a dress you can wear at a more casual party and go for a biker chic look with some ankle boots (with a heel of course!) or wear it more formally with a high heel and a blazer.
Photo print dress of scuba material (H&M)
You may think that this dress looks a tad to summery for the winter party season, but I find that this could be a great stand out piece if everyone else is wearing black and sequins. The bright colors make this a fun dress, the material (which is quite thick) gives is a nice weight and structure and the cut is very flattering. Since this is a very loud dress, I wouldn’t accessorize it too much. With a pair of black tights, black heels and a black blazer or cardigan you can easily tone it down and make this dress more winter proof.
Tulle dress (H&M)
A few years ago, H&M did plenty of these type of dresses. If you clicked the link that comes with the purple dress in this post, you can see the two other dresses I own(ed) that fall into that same category. This taupe number looked great on me from the bottom down, but not so much at the top. Which is why I chose to wear this with a black cropped cardigan for my family’s annual Christmas dinner a few years ago. Since the material has a metallic sheen to it, this again, doesn’t need much accessorizing either: just let the dress do the talking.
