3x Liquid Lipsticks: NYC, Revlon, Too Faced

Today I have another 3-in-1 review for you. To round off the liquid lipstick review week, I decided to do a miscellaneous post featuring three lipsticks that are labelled as liquid lipsticks, but that do function in a slightly different way. None of these I find really dry down into a matte finish. They all stay pretty glossy on the lip, making them less longwearing. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Let’s have a look at these lippies.

If I look a little bit different in these pictures, that’s because I bought most of these and started these reviews back when I still had longer hair. It sometimes takes a while for me to get round to reviewing a product. The reason why these reviews were still sitting on a shelf was the fact that I only had one of each. And one lipstick doesn’t really make a full review, unless it’s a very very special one. So for today’s post, I decided to lump them together and show them to you even though it has been a long time coming.

Out of the three, I think the shade of this NYC lipstick is my favorite. It is the perfect deeper dusty rose shade with a hint of mauve. Really quite stunning and it suits my complexion nicely. I also feel this makes my lips look fuller as it mimics the natural shade of my lips quite well. This goes on very glossy and dries down, but keeps a very satin finish.

The lasting power of this wasn’t the best. Within a few hours it wore off and I found the applicator quite big and messy to apply. Hence this isn’t my favorite liquid lipstick in this post or ever. It is good, and great for the price you pay for it. At just €3.99, it is definitely a lot of bang for your buck. So if you can’t or won’t spend more than a fiver on a lipstick, then this one is for you.

Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stay Miami Fever

After that very affordable pick, this bright orange Revlon number is upping the price by pretty much double. Of course at just under €10 this still doesn’t break the bank, but the NYX liquid lipsticks I reviewed last Monday are extremely close in price to this. This is definitely more of a stain than a liquid lipstick: it is sheer and glossy and it stays that way on the lips.

This doesn’t dry down at all, which is why it possibly has the worst lasting power of all three lipsticks. Another weird thing: this liquid lipstick doesn’t look orange on my lips at all. Where it promises to be super bright and zesty, on my lips it turns into a coral shade. Still pretty, but not what I had expected. Possibly has to do with my lips being naturally quite pigmented. Least favorite one in the bunch and will definitely pass this along the next time I need some more space in my collection.

Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear lipstick Peony

From my least favorite to my favorite one in the bunch. Too Faced’s Peony Melted lipstick is of course up there in price compared to the previous two. At $21 a pop, this is one of the more expensive liquid lipsticks I own. What makes this worth the price though are the color range, staying power and texture. This feels very comfortable on the lips while still leaving behind a stay as it wears off.

I am still not sure whether the color I picked is one for me though. Peony turns a very baby pink shade on my lips, but that might also be because I am a little bit more tanned on this picture. I wear it sometimes, but I find this hard to pull off. I need to be wearing just the right eye make up and blush shade in order to wear this. But the formula of this is so great, that I’d love to get some more. I just spotted a shade called Chihuahua on the Too Faced website that I think might suit me better.

What budget liquid lipstick do you recommend?

  1. If you’re looking into liquid lipsticks, I dunno if you’ve tried the NYX soft matte liquid lip creams, but those are great! I also hear that the new Revlon HD liquid lipsticks are great and really affordable 🙂
