Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap

Meet Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soap in Almond. This liquid soap is an all-in-one soap that pretty much replaces any cleaning product in your house. From dish washing liquid to shampoo and from cleaning product to facial cleanser: this product promises to do it all. I picked up a bottle of this 100% Fair Trade and mostly organic soap from &Other Stories a while ago. My main intention of use? As a brush cleanser! I will be reviewing it as such today.

I didn’t know much about this brand, but I was simply in the market for a new brush cleanser and along popped this. A 200+ ml bottle retails for around €10 – €15, but you can also buy this in bulk via their website. One reason for buying this wasn’t the fact that it was such an all-rounder, but because it promised to be gentle, yet thorough at the same time. Sounds like a good brush cleanser to me!

The bottle is simple and straightforward, but filled with text. It comes with instructions in multiple languages, as well as a full list of ingredients. I have had my bottle for a while and my version seems to have a slightly different consistency than what is listed on their official website.

Ingredients:

Water, Organic Coconut Oil*, Potassium Hydroxide**, Organic Palm Kernel Oil*, Organic Olive Oil*, Organic Hemp Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Natural Almond Fragrance, Citric Acid, Tocopherol

In any case, this very short list of ingredients promises this product to be a great one. It features lots of different oils which will definitely help with cleaning your brushes.

This soap doesn’t just sound promising by its ingredients, but also from its claims. Fair trade and organic, while containing no synthetics, scented with organic fragrance and no petrochemicals. Even the bottle is made of recycled materials! To top things off, this soap promises to be applicable in 18 different ways.

You can use Dr. Bronner’s soaps for washing your face, body, hands and hair, for bathing, shaving, brushing your teeth, rinsing fruit, aromatherapy, washing dishes by hand, doing laundry, mopping floors, all-purpose cleaning, washing windows, scrubbing toilets, washing dogs, controlling dust mites, and killing ants and aphids.

Like I said I didn’t try that, but used it for cleaning my brushes. The best part of this soap is that a little goes a long way. The almond fragrance is nice and sweet and sort of lingers, making your brushes smell great for a good little while. There are some other scents and I would be very interested in trying the eucalyptus or peppermint scents. If you don’t like a particular scent than the brand has even thought of that as this also comes in an unscented version.

The soap itself is a transparent liquid. It doesn’t look or feel like anything too special. For the most part you just smell the fragrance, and it feels a little bit oily. Which of course is no surprise as this soap is mainly based on oils. When you add water, it foams up but not overly so.

What I love about this product is that it makes it so much easier to clean brushes. I used baby shampoo in the past, but since that often still contains SLS or SLES, it might still be damaging for your brushes. This contains none of that and works even better than baby shampoo. It is gentle, doesn’t dry out your brushes and cleans them thoroughly, yet gently.

What’s more: I’ve been using this for brush cleansing for the past 1.5 years now and I’ve only used up half a bottle. A little goes a long way and you only need a few drops to clean even your dirtiest of brushes. This, in combination with one of my new favorite brush cleansing tools makes for a great brush cleansing routine. There is just no more reason to be putting off a good brush cleanse on a regular basis as it is now super quick and easy.

My conclusion is nothing but positive on this product. I will definitely be repurchasing this in the future. This is really one of those products which makes me think: how could I have lived without it? If you can find it anywhere near you (I found mine at &Other Stories) then make sure to give them a sniff and find your favorite scent. You will certainly not regret it.

How do you clean your brushes?
