Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine nail polish

As you might have seen in my recent nail polish collection video, there are quite a few brands that I love. And when I love a nail polish brand, I tend to buy multiple shades. From OPI and Catrice, to Essie and Essence: I go from high end to low end and everything in between. One brand that I love and that is very affordable is Barry M. This UK drugstore brand can be found online and I absolutely adore their Gelly Hi-Shine polish. High time I share with you the loveliness.

My main reason for loving the Gelly Hi-Shine polishes is the formula and finish. These polishes make for some of the most long lasting glossy looking nails without too much effort. They dry quickly, often only need one or two very thin coats to go on opaque and the shade range is stunning. I buy one or two whenever I am in the UK and I am fortunate enough to have a make up store around the corner from me that now sells these too. Depending on where you buy them, these polishes range from €4 – €6 a pop. On to the shades I have!

Blood Orange – Chilli – Black Pistachio

This first set are the darkest shades I have. Blood Orange was one of the first ones I tried from the range. This is a stunning classic red that looks as retro as it does classy. Chilli is a hint darker than Blood Orange and has more of a brick undertone with a hint more brown to it. Black Pistachio is one of my newer purchases and part of a collection that has many near black shades. This blackened green shade will be perfect for fall I think.

On to the brights then. I have 3 seriously bright shades. Papaya is a perfect bright peach. I love wearing this during spring and summer mostly. Another perfect summer shade is Blue Grape: a shade you might recognize as I wear it quite often. This bright electric blue is just stunning on the nail. Kiwi is a hint dull for my taste, but still a very vibrant green, though not my favorite.

Next up are the medium tones. These colors are a bit more muted and toned down compared to the firs two batches. Blueberry is a great sky blue. Almond is a tad dark for a nude, but a great greyish brown shade. Cotton is a straight up white. The line contains several whites and believe this one is the brightest one. I wore this on my toes a lot this summer and absolutely loved it for that purpose. It’s also the best white polish I own, as white polishes can be quite tricky to get right.

Fondant – Rose Hip – Sugar Apple – Huckleberry

Lastly, I own a few pastel shades as well. Again these are perfect for spring/ summer time. Fondant is a very interesting shade as it is not quite pink and not quite purple, but a good mix of the two. Rose Hip is a sweet baby pink shade that is actually very flattering on and not streaky. Sugar Apple is another favorite of the line. It’s quite bold for a pastel, which is why I like it. Finally, Huckleberry is the perfect baby blue shade.

Swatches show you how amazing these are. I always swatch polish on nail wheels. As these are transparent, you can most easily see how well a polish performs. Here I’ve applied two layers of each polish and they go on opaque. On average these polishes last 4 – 5 days on my nails which is exceptionally good in my case.

If you have never tried the Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine nail polishes before, then please run to the stores and go get a few. There are so many stunning shades and for the price point these are some of the best polishes out there. Well worth the money and well worth the time and effort hunting these down.

  1. Barry M has always been a good quality affordable brand. I haven’t tried these as I nails like paper and the only thing that stops them breaking is a uv gel polish, I guess that’s the price you pay for wearing acrylic nails for os long. great collection.

  2. […] Barry M Gelly Hi-Shine Fondant – Fondant is the odd one out here. It is a light, muted mauve, that is super pretty on the nail. It looks fresh and that is why it is perfect for spring. Another reason why I like this is how this looks like a very nice neutral. As it has a lot of pink with a touch of purple, this shade adds a very chic look, but with a bit of a twist. […]
