Happy birthday Floating in Dreams

I’m a day late, but that doesn’t mean there is less of a reason to party. By now this little space on the WWW has been around for 7 whole years. 7 years! If you’d told me seven years ago, this blog would still be around and I would still be doing this and enjoying it, I’d have probably told you, you were nuts. Because what started as a fun experiment because I missed writing, became so much more. This post will take a look back and a look forward when it comes to the past, present and future of this blog.happy birthday blogaversay blog anniversary floating in dreams

Happy Birthday Floating in Dreams

I have told this story before, but since I’ve gained many new followers in the past year, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to say it again. This blog was literally started on a rainy Friday evening in September 2010, because I felt I needed a creative outlet. I started this place because I wanted to write and share my interests that I felt were neglected in my everyday life. None of my friends or family were into makeup, fashion and music like I was and so I wanted to share my passions online.

Posting online is something I had already been doing for years. I became a member of many message boards and chatrooms in my late teens and early twenties and even was an administrator and a moderator for some of my favorite web pages for a while. Since I knew little HTML, I never started my own website in those days, but I kept a live journal and a travel blog in 2005 and 2008. Mainly to keep my friends and family updated on my goings on, but it did also sow the seeds for this blog.

At first I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and very often I still don’t. I never started this place thinking I could make money out of it and it’s still something I am not actively pursuing, even though I probably could. The thing is, I love my teaching job too much to give up another day at my job which is what I would have to do if I were to try to convert this place into something more professional. I could, but it simply would take me away too much from that other thing I love doing: being an English teacher.

Over the years, I have noticed that maintaining a blog has helped me practice my English much more consistently on a day-to-day basis, but it has also brought me a lot more. For years I was a loner in my own little corner until some friends of mine started blogging too and by now there are quite a few fellow bloggers that I talk to. Either via their blogs or mine but also outside of it. I sometimes receive products for a review and those moments are still pretty cool as it doesn’t happen too often.

I mostly enjoy writing beauty reviews and going into my 8th year of blogging, I have decided to change things up a little bit. The two days I find hardest to fill are Tuesdays and Thursdays when I write about random things such as food, lifestyle, nails and music. So what I am going to change is that those days I might also add in a bit of beauty or makeup, or I could do something completely different. I am not entirely sure yet.

The aim is to get 2 – 3 reviews up every week and then to supplement the other days when necessary. It pretty much means I will be less strict on myself with what I post online. In short, Tuesdays and Thursdays are going to be my wild cards. And I have a few ideas what to do with them, but if you have any input: I’d love to know. Fridays will still be reserved for fashion related posts and Sundays will still see a video going live as well. So that won’t change.

Other than that, my goal is to still keep going with this blog for as long as I feel like it. Sure, I’ve had moments where I dreaded making another post. For the most part though, I really enjoy this. It’s a nice moment in my day to get away from life and just think about make up, fashion, books and all other things that I think make life a little bit more enjoyable.

Here’s to another 7 years!
