The Body Shop Aloe moisturizer

A good moisturizer is a must for me year round, but especially in the fall and winter when my skin gets drier I need something that works on my dehydrated, sensitive skin. Sadly, my favorite moisturizer of all time, the Olay Total Effects moisturizer for sensitive skin has been discontinued and so I’ve been on the hunt for a worthy replacement. Will this be it?

It is no secret that I am a huge fan of TBS skincare to begin with. I swear by several of their products and the aloe vera line and myself go way back. In fact, it was one of the very first reviews I ever posted online and that did well on this blog. Go figure. I always keep a bottle of the Aloe Vera toner on hand for instance and this has become a true staple in my skincare routine. This moisturizer retails for €19. While this may seem expensive, my favorite Olay one costs just a little bit more and both can be bought on sale quite frequently.

The Packaging

Can we just mention the packaging upgrade TBS did? I mean, I love the new look and feel for all of the packaging. It is clean, it’s simple and still very much TBS. The tube states that this moisturizer is formulated for sensitive skin (that would be me!) and that it is free of fragrance, colourants, parabens and alcohol. And it contains SPF! Not many day time moisturizers actually have that in there.

And yes, this comes in a tube! Hallelujah: a brand that gets good skincare packaging. I prefer this over the pump from Olay as this just allows you to get all the product out much better and it is less messy. Additionally, it is as hygienic as a pump, which pushes this another notch up the ladder over other favorites such as Origins Ginzing moisturizer and Clinique Hydroblur. Those come in pots and we all know how that works for keeping your skincare ingredients stable.

The Ingredients

Now I am not too diligent about reading up on the ingredients before purchasing a new skincare item. I probably should, but I always end up looking at these in hindsight. The active ingredients boasted about on the front, the aloe vera, is not listed until the second half of the list. This means there isn’t too much in it. This mostly seems to be made of water, silicones and glycerin. Maybe not the best if you look at the ingredient list, but I do really like this.

The Swatch

As you can see this moisturizer is quite thick, but spreads out easily when blending this into the skin. At first this feels quite wet and your skin looks very dewy once you first apply this. It is absorbed easily, which means this is a great moisturizer to be worn under makeup. That was a drawback of my favorite Olay one: sometimes that was a little too rich for the day time.

The Conclusion

This works really great as a day time moisturizer. It has not given me any irritations or sensivities yet and I’ve been using it every day for a month. It nourishes my skin just fine: it is neither too rich, nor too liquidy. I have find with other Aloe Vera skincare items that they are either too thin (day cream) or too thick (night cream), but this consistency is just right. If you have sensitive skin and are looking for a moisturizer that has SPF, works well under makeup, yet doesn’t break the bank then I would highly recommend you look into the The Body Shop Aloe Vera moisturizer.

What is your favorite moisturizer?
