NYX Microbrow eyebrow pencil

I am no too fussy about what I use for my brows. I have a bit of brow to work with and all I tend to do is a little bit of filling in and setting it with some gel. That’s it. I like my brow products to be easy to use and I find it important that the product I use is cool enough to match my brow shade. Shade wise, I can get away with almost anything, so I am not too fussy about whether a brow product is too light or too dark for me. So let’s see how I fared with the NYX Microbrow brow pencil.  nyx microbrow brow pencil eyebrow taupe review swatch

NYX Micro Brow Pencil Taupe

My ultimate favorite brow pencil is by Soap & Glory: the Archery Brow Pencil. Since that is quite difficult to get a hold of where I live I have been looking for alternatives. Many of these precise brow pencils run out extraordinarily quickly. So I am looking for a pencil that doesn’t run out too quickly and isn’t too expensive. At €9.50 a piece, NYX Micro Brow is as expensive as the Soap & Glory version and half the price of an Anastasia Beverly Hills pencil.

The Packaging

NYX Micro Brow comes packaged in a little box. It is easy to find and is available in 8 different shades. That is more than Soap & Glory which is only available in three. So it will be easier to get a shade match that is right for you. I bought mine in Taupe. Usually those brow shades match my brows okay and they aren’t too warm toned. In total, the pencil comes with 0.09 grams of product. That isn’t much, but if the pencil is not too soft it will last quite some time.

The Pencil

The pencil itself comes equipped with two sides: a spoolie and the pencil. I like the spoolie on this. It isn’t too big and it’s great that it’s there. It makes for a brow that isn’t too intense. The pencil isn’t very big: it doesn’t seem like a lot of product. I have been using this pencil consistently since the end of October and it still hasn’t run out. I have used pencil similar to this that lasted less than a month, so this is pretty good for a fine brow pencil.

The Swatch

What you can see in the swatch is that this pencil is not too soft or powdery. It is rather stiff which I like: it allows for a precise application without being too intense. I haven’t had any experience with this breaking or anything like that.

The shade is a pretty good match. This isn’t too warm and it isn’t too dark either. This is precisely the type of shade I like for my brows. I have blonde hair and my brows are a fair bit darker with some blonde hairs mixed in. So all I need for my brows is a good shade match to make everything look a little bit more uniform.

The Application

Because the tip of this pencil is so precise, it makes for a quick and easy application. I like how this makes my brows look fuller and more filled in, but it doesn’t look too much. Many brow products and brow styles aren’t much my cup of tea: I like a natural look, not that Instagram ombre look. If that Instagram look is your thing, then I think this pencil may not be for you as it may be more difficult to draw on actual brow hairs and fade the product. However, if you merely want a nicely filled in brow, then this product is just as good as the Soap & Glory.

The Conclusion

I have found a second favorite brow pencil in the NYX Micro Brow Pencil in Taupe. This is a great brow product that makes doing brows quick and easy. The shade match is great, the product lasts a good enough time and it isn’t too expensive. If you’re looking for a brow product that gets the job done, then this is a great one.

  1. I have this guy in black and don’t mind it. I’m still stuck on my dip brow though. It lasts such a long time for me and I have a habit of resting my hands on my brows at work when I’m thinking (I know it’s rare but it happens!) and pencils always seem to wear off by the end of the day

  2. I have very sparse brows (sadly) and use Anastasia but I’m going to give this a go. Thanks for the recommendation.

  3. This is my favourite brow product! I use the same shade and feel like it’s the perfect one for my brows. I don’t like that Instagram look either and feel like this fills in my brows without making them look too bold. Great review! 😊 xx
