We’re in the midst of fall, so what better palette to review than the Zoeva Spice of Life eyeshadow palette? This palette is part of the chocolate range that Zoeva do and since I love those, it was only natural that I would try this one too. The minute I spotted this, I knew this would be right up my street. It has some fun neutral colors, but there is one in particular that is a real gem. But an eyeshadow palette is only as good as the sum of its parts. So how good is this one?

You can buy this palette in different formats: as a palette, as a travel palette and as part of a box set. The smaller travel palette contains 6 shades and retails for €15 as a single. The larger palette, which is what I am showing today, retails for €23. If you buy the voyager box set you get three mini palettes for €36, while the larger box set retails for €62.
The Packaging

All Zoeva palettes have the same sleek design to them. They all come in a cardboard box that is thin and doesn’t have a mirror. I personally don’t mind it so much as I prefer a sleek design over bulky packaging that is difficult to store and/ or carry around. This is perfect for a lightweight palette and it is all about the shadows. The palette has a red design and goes perfectly with the already existing palettes in this line.
The Palette

I told you this was a perfect fall palette! It has all the cranberries and murky browns that work perfectly this time of year. The shade I was most smitten with is called Unlike Any Other and its the shimmer shade in the top left part of the palette. This shimmer is what makes the palette and it is sadly not part of the smaller 6 pan travel palette.
Another aspect to remark on with this palette is the fact that there are only 4 mattes. That is not a whole lot and the darkest shade in the palette also shimmer. To me that isn’t a great downside, but it may be if you prefer more mattes than shimmers. That said, most of the mattes are exactly the ones that you’d want: a couple of good crease and transition shades to really build a look around.
The Swatch

As you can see the swatches of this palette are great. Each shade is intense and builds up well. The only shade that doesn’t really show up is the matte cream in the top left corner as that is simply too close to my skin tone. All these shades blend easily and as you will see below you can create some very pretty neutral looks with this. I have never had any issues with Zoeva shadows fading or creasing with a good primer underneath.
The Application

Look 1

I did two looks with this palette to show you each shade on my eyes. For this first look I decided to play around with the copper shades in the palette. I put the warm toned brown in the crease and used the golden tones on the lower lash line. I finished off the look with the peachy shimmer in the inner corner. It’s just a simply look that can work for every day.

Look 2

For my second look, I of course had to go in with that gorgeous shimmer. So I used that all over the lid. As you can see it is very pretty but it does take effort to make it look like that. You have to build it, foil it and use your fingers to make sure it goes on like this. Since the rest of the palette is very warm toned and a bit reddish in undertone I feel the shade doesn’t go with a lot of the rest of the shades. Also reds can make you look tired or ill, so you do have to be careful with your color placement.
My Final Thoughts
I think the Zoeva Spice of Life eyeshadow palette is a good neutral palette that has one very special shades and enough other shades to create a beautiful look. It is warm toned and therefore perfect for fall, but some shades work better closer to the eye than others. To me, having only 4 mattes isn’t much of a downside, but I think some people may find it to be. Perhaps not the most versatile of palettes, but a pretty one nonetheless.

I like the second look a lot, however, I don’t want an eye shadow that takes too much effort to apply. I’m all about getting enough color payoff in one or two sweeps. So Zoeva might not be for me, although I haven’t tried any of their products yet. 🙂
I am the opposite. I prefer shadows that need building up.
