Tarte Blush Natural Beauty

For a while now, Tarte has been making some of my favorite blushes. I bought two of them a few years ago in Seduce and Achiote and I have been loving them ever since. The shade range is not my favorite, but one shade that I had been lusting after for a while is a stunning red called Natural Beauty. For a while it was more difficult to find and it seemed it had been discontinued. But for a year or so it is now back and so when I was in the US, I decided to buy it.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush // Natural Beauty // Review, Swatch, Makeup Look

Tarte’s Amazonian Clay blushes are notorious in terms of blushes. Some people love them, others do not. The texture is one that you have to like and for the price point, these blushes definitely fit into the more high end price point. At €31 a pop these are not cheap. There are 12 shades in total and Natural Beauty is the brightest, most out there shade.

The Packaging

When it comes to packaging the Tarte packaging is 100% on point. Each blush has packaging in the shade that is inside. It is not a perfect match, but I like how there is no mistake which color you reach for in your collection. The compact has a good mirror and there is no space for a brush, so it is all about the product and that is something I appreciate.

The Blush

Tarte blushes are iconic not just for their quality, but also for their shades, packaging and the embossing stamped into the blush. These blushes are notoriously bad for swatching. Some of these shades will simply not show up in a finger swatch, which initially held me off buying them. The texture of these is tough and that is why these blushes will last you a life time. You only need a little bit each time and it will take you ages to wear down the pattern.

The Shade

As a blush shade, Natural Beauty is one of the more unconventional shades in the Tarte line. Most blushes are different shades of nude, so a bright poppy red is definitely out of sync with the rest of the offerings. That said however, a pinky red can also look very natural, despite what you might think. I bought this because I already owned a red blush that I love. But Urban Decay Bang is an orange toned red and that is less flattering than a pink toned red on the cheeks. Why? Because a pink toned red gives that fresh in from the cold kind of look.

The Swatch

As you can see in this swatch, while the packaging is bright red, the blush itself is not as intense as you might expect. That is partly due to that tough texture. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay formula is a different one: difficult to swatch with a finger, but super easy to apply with a brush. But once this is on, it won’t budge, lasts all day and looks very natural on the face. Because these blushes are easy to blend and because they are more on the sheer side, they never look like too much.

The Application

So what does this look like on? Because with a shade like this I think most people will think it will make you look like a clown. And as you can see it doesn’t. It is not a subtle shade: when you wear this, then it is obvious that you are wearing a blush. But it is a very natural shade. This is that fresh in from the cold kind of shade. As if you spent walking out in the snow and that made your cheeks look flushed. It also complements my skin tone very well in the winter time as I have a more cool toned undertone this matches me perfectly.

My Final Thoughts

I knew going into it that I would love the Tarte Amazonian Clay Blush in Natural Beauty. Based on my experience with two previous shades, I was sure this would be up my street. This shade is super unique though and I don’t own anything like it. So thanks to Tarte for bringing it back! If you want a great blush that will last you for years, then definitely check out Tarte. Their blushes are definitely well worth it.

  1. Maaike, that shade looks beautiful on you! I have 2 Tarte blushes, one is the soft, dusty pink that was part of the Love, Trust and Fairy Dust collection and I can’t remember the name of the other one, but it’s very similar to Natural Beauty. I love both of them! And you’re right! They will definitely last a lifetime!

  2. This is still my favorite blush! The first Tarte blush I purchased was “Doll Face”– it’s a little too pink for me and doesn’t really show up well. I tried “Natural Beauty” next and I love it. I need a really intense color to show up on me, otherwise I look really pale and pasty. The only issue I have is that it tends to fade. Most blushes do on me. The only ones that don’t fade on me are Juvia’s Place blushes because they are so intensely pigmented. Anyway, “Natural Beauty” looks gorgeous on you, great review!

    • I think that fading blush has not necessarily to do with pigmentation, but more so with formula and what you are wearing it with combined with your skin type.
