Not every item you try will work for you and I haven’t had much luck with what I have tried from Wet N Wild. This brand is so raved about online and many people love their products. But I have not yet found many products by the brand that I love as much. Case in point: their eyeshadow formula. I tried one of their older style palettes, but I hadn’t tried their reformulated version. So when I got the chance to try Rosé in the Air, I didn’t hesitate and gave it a whirl.

Review: Wet N Wild Rosé in the Air eyeshadow palette

Wet N Wild as a brand is finally becoming a bit easier to access in Europe, but it took a while for it to be readily available. And now that it is, it has become controversial. The brand was famously cruelty free, but then it was found that the brand is now sold in China and China requires animal testing. So to many in the beauty community Wet N Wild is no longer cruelty free. Now that we have addressed the controversy surrounding this brand, I thought we could chat about something that this brand does well and that is its price point. Wet N Wild is famously affordable and even more so if you are in the US. The best way for me to get this palette is through Beauty Bay where this retails for €7.25.

What does this palette have to offer?

Famously, Wet N Wild’s Rosé in the Air dupes ABH’s Modern Renaissance. It definitely has similar vibes, but it is missing some of the reds, pinks and berries that make the palette for me. To me, this is ABH’s MR without the interesting shades and that is a shame because it is the berries that take the MR to the next level. You get 8 mattes and only 2 shimmers in this palette and the color story is very warm too. So that is downside no. 1 for me.

But downside no. 2 is definitely the quality of this palette for me. The interesting shades that you could use to create a different look with this end up being the shades that perform the worst. The fact that there are not that many shimmers also isn’t my favorite. I feel there is nothing here to add a bit of dimension to a look. It’s just very bland and not that stellar. The blendability is okay with this, but I feel the shades are just a bit lackluster and muted overall.

What does this palette look like on?

As per usual I like showing you what the palette looks like on. After lots of trying, this is the best I could come up with and this includes EVERY. SINGLE. SHADE. in the palette. It’s what I always do for eyeshadow palette reviews and now matter how much I tried, the mattes just muddied together and it was difficult to create a nicely diffused, yet defined look. The palette simply took everything that was interesting about ABH Modern Renaissance and then made it very flat, boring and uninspiring.

My final thoughts

It will therefore come as no surprise to you that I wasn’t impressed with this palette. I was so unimpressed that I decluttered it the first opportunity I had. It was so promising and if you can find eyeshadow that is much more affordable than the much more expensive thing then that is great. However, I feel the quality is just not here and I even feel I have eyeshadow that retails for around the same price point as this does that I simply like 100x better.

Would I recommend Wet N Wild’s Rosé in the Air eyeshadow palette?

To be honest, I feel that rather than buying loads of very affordable makeup that leaves you still wanting the real thing, I would just save up and get the real deal straight away. I learned that lesson the hard way. In my experience buying the cheaper alternative when you really want the more expensive item, just means you don’t get the satisfaction of owning the real thing and it just makes you spend more money rather than less.

What was the last eyeshadow palette you tried that you didn’t like much?

I got Lime Crime Venus mini on sale I think around Black Friday or maybe after Christmas. But I don’t like it. There are only 4 colors and the prettiest color is a shimmery purplish pink, but I can barely swatch it, let alone pick it up on a brush. I was disappointed in the formula for the price, so I’m glad I got it on sale!

Oh that is such a shame if a shade barely picks up. Did you try a sponge tip applicator? Those can sometimes be very useful in those cases. Or scraping off the top layer of the shadow. It could just be that it has hard pan.

Thanks for the tip. It did seem a bit dry.
