Tarte High Tides & Good Vibes eyeshadow palette review

We all know I love a good neutral palette with a twist and usually that twist is not glitter. But this as you can see is a neutral palette with pops of blue and glitter. So why would I want to get my hands on this limited edition eyeshadow palette you ask? Because these glitters are some of the best and they go very well with the palette overall. Don’t believe me? Review: Tarte High Tides & Good Vibes eyeshadow palette

So I had heard that this palette was limited edition, but in some places you seem to be able to actually still buy it, more than a year after its release. It retails for €42 which for a palette this pretty is not a whole lot of money. I bought mine from the Sephora in France last summer. This was a palette I had heard about not being great, but then I spotted it in store and gave it a swatch and was pretty enamored with it. From the packaging to the color story and yes, even those pressed glitters!

What does this palette have to offer?

This palette is quite a different one, especially for Tarte’s line up. They usually excel at the super neutral stuff so for them to do a palette with blues and glitters that is something else. This is a 12 pan palette with an interesting layout a good range of neutrals and some interesting colors and textures to give variety. So that is why I picked up this particular palette.

What is the color story like?

Inside you get four mattes, four glitters and four shimmer shades. There seems to be some oranges, beiges, bronzes and a stunning champagne. Then there are some royal blues, a teal, a mint and a dusty pink. The glitters line up perfectly with the rest of these shades. There is a pink glitter to go with the pink matte, there is a stunning gold (and I am never a huge fan of golds). The green shimmer is in face more of a teal and what better way to round off a palette then with a silver?

How do these shades swatch?

Can we all just take a moment to appreciate these swatches? Because those shadows are stunning and each one of them swatches beautifully. I swatched the glitters separately to show you how could these are. Most pressed glitters I have tried will go on quite sparse, even in a finger swatch. These start of looking very opaque, so when you pack them on, guess what you’ll get? Yes full opacity. The shades themselves blend well and the formula is great. The glitters do need a glitter glue to stay put but I wore some of these looks to work for a full day and had no issues with fall out at all.

3 Looks, 1 Palette

Of course I had to give you the full low down on this palette and show you plenty of looks too. I did a full on blue look, a neutral look with that stunning gold on the lid and than lastly, the look that surprised me most: the all pink look.

The minute I spotted those blues I knew they would be a great look. I put the teal glitter just in the center of the lid to only add a hint of sparkle there. I also put some of that silver glitter on the lower lash line and I ended up loving the way that looks. I used the mint shade in the inner corner and I feel that nicely rounds out the look.

Now I told you that one of the reasons I wanted this palette was the glitters. I hope this look convinces you as much as it did me. That gold is just so glam and yummy and with a finger and a bit of glitter glue this stayed put all day. The basis of the look is simple with all those neutrals on the left side of the palette. I used the champagne in the inner corner and I used the bronze on the lid and the lower lash line.

This final look is the simplest of them all. I wore this to work and loved it. It is glam, but still a very pretty everyday look. All I did here was put the matte pink all over my eye all the way up into the crease. I then topped it all off with the pink glitter. The tones of it are just perfect for what I wanted it to do. This is neutral, yet with a twist.

My final thoughts

I really like the Tarte High Tides and Good Times eyeshadow palette. I know this got some slack as lots of people didn’t like those glitters, but I would always recommend using a glitter glue when you use a glitter. Lots of people I saw saying this was no good were putting this glitters on without so much as a primer going on underneath it. But these go on well, as you can see in this pictures and I had no issues.

Would I recommend the Tarte High Tides & Good Vibes eyeshadow palette?

I most certainly liked this palette, but since this may be hard to get by now, I don’t think you should go out of your way to get it. But if you find it, especially on a sale and you want neutrals with an interesting twist, pick this up. However, if you want a similar vibe there are many other neutral palettes out there with a pop of blue. Buy some glitters from an indie brand and you got essentially the same thing. So is it a must have? No, but this is certainly pretty.
