After trying a Fenty Gloss Bomb Cream and a Killawat Highlighter, it was time to try some more. For holiday 2020, Fenty Beauty released a mini travel set featuring a mini Diamond Bomb highlighter and a mini Gloss Bomb in the shimmer formula. So when I saw that I knew I wanted to try them as the two products also came in shades that I knew would be right for me. I decided to finally put the products in my March Shop My Stash and give them a try. Here’s how that went.

Review: Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb Baby mini travel set ft Diamond Bomb highlighter in How Many Carats & Gloss Bomb lipgloss in Fu$$y

I order my Fenty Beauty products from the French Sephora website. It is easiest from me to buy from, but sadly the website is only available in French which can be a bit of a setback. The brand is also available from Harvey Nichols in the UK, but with Brexit thrown into the mix, I think it is a safer bet to get the brand from a mainland Europe retailer as it will avoid any surprise customs fees. I paid €25 for the set which I think is a good price for two mini products that I just wanted to try. I had heard rave reviews about the Fenty Gloss Bombs and the Diamond Bomb highlighter I just wanted to try after loving my Killawat highlighter so much.

In this mini kit, you will receive 2 mini products that are also available as a full size. The individual products retail for €20 and €38 respectively, so I think that paying €25 for both products is a good price if all you want is to try them out. I own too much makeup anyway, so if I can buy a mini first that is just so much more helpful. You get a decent amount of product too. The Diamond Bomb comes with 2.8 grams (a full size is 10 grams) and the gloss comes with 5.5 mls (a full size is 5.5 mls). In short, for trying this out, this is excellent and I have yet to use up a full sized highlighter and lipgloss in my life time, so I know I won’t be running out of these any time soon.

The Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb highlighter is a very different product from her Killawat highlighter. The duo Killawat highlighters all come with a subtle satin side and a more intense metallic side and are both powder formulas. The Diamond Bomb is a gel to powder texture that promises to provide a 3D glitter effect. Not only is the formula completely different, the intended effect is too as the Killawat highlighters do not contain any noticeable shimmer particles. This does (and then some!)!

What is the shade like?

How Many Carats?! is one out of four shades available, but the one that I knew would be best for my skin tone. While the brands shows these products on different skin tones and how you can make them work, I would say this white tone is probably best for using if you have a fair to light skin tone. It isn’t just meant to be a highlighter either: you can use this anywhere you want to add some sparkle and is also recommended for use on the body as well as on the face. I mainly use mine as a face highlighter.

Needless to say, I was a bit nervous about this one and this is why I am happy to have bought it as a mini. Because glitter highlighter isn’t exactly high up on my list as all time favorite highlighter products. As you can see in the swatch, this highlighter barely has a base shade to it, but mainly consists of white, diamond like, sparkling shimmer that shines like there is no tomorrow. I did have to play around with this products quite a bit to figure out how best to use it. With a brush I found I ended up too much with just glitter and not enough shine. In the end I found out, this applies best with fingers as that gives the skin the prettiest glow. I used it in a recent GRWM and I found it paired especially well with the blush I was using in that video.

However, the product that really made we want to buy the set was the Gloss Bomb in Fussy. I had heard so many rave reviews about this lipgloss and at the end of 2020 I went on a real lipgloss kick. After having found out exactly what I like in terms of lipstick, I decided to give lipgloss a try after having a bit of a trauma after years of hair sticking to my lips in my late teens and early 20s. This promises not to make your lips feel sticky and I had seen so many people going through these glosses that I knew I wanted to make it part of my ‘great lipgloss try out’.

What does this lipgloss have to offer?

The Gloss Bomb is the OG, but I have to say that I like the Cream formula this comes in a touch better than this one. The main reason for this is the fact that I like the shade a bit better. This came as a surprise to me as I heard lots of people not liking the Gloss Bomb Creams at all and still preferring this. I have to say though that in terms of lipgloss this is s still a great product. It is a thick, creamy formula that stays on the lips quite well (but does need touching up after a meal). Where some glosses that contain sparkle are uncomfortable as you can feel the shimmer particles on your lips, this doesn’t do that. I have heard of people not loving the smell, but I personally do not notice anything too strong or overpowering.

How does this swatch?

Fussy is a great shade. It has a pinky nude base with lots of sparkle running through. It really makes your lips look fuller and more plump and this is a great shade for topping over a lip liner or a nude lipstick. However, what I don’t feel this works for is to wear as is. This is why I like the Cream one a touch better as that truly makes for a my lips but better look, whereas with this, it just looks like I am wearing a clear balm and it isn’t necessarily bringing anything extra to the table. My lips are naturally quite pigmented though and this may be why on me that pinky nude shade just doesn’t show up much, leaving me with just a bit of sparkle.

What do these products look like on the face?

When I took these pictures I hadn’t gotten the hang yet of a the right application for this highlighter. But this way you can see what happens when you apply it with a brush. As you can see, the highlighter looks quite sparse and while there is some sheen and shine, I feel I end up with too many ‘chunks’ (though this definitely isn’t a chunky highlighter at all). It’s best applied with fingers as that really allows you to get as much of the jelly formula to transfer onto the face. The result: a glass like affect with a multidimensional sparkle that works really well with other luminous cheek products.

My final thoughts

Of the Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb Baby travel set I had expected to like the Gloss Bomb in Fussy more so than the Diamond Bomb highlighter in How Many Carats. After using both products all month, I can say that I ended up liking the highlighter a lot more than the gloss. In the end, the gloss just doesn’t do enough for me and I found myself reaching for the Gloss Bomb Cream in Mauve Wives instead every time I wanted to go for a nude lip look. The highlighter was in my Shop My Stash together with some other products as well and I barely even reached for those by the end of the month. I wore the Diamond Bomb highlighter pretty much exclusively for the past 2 – 3 weeks and I actually don’t want to put it away just yet, that’s who much I love it.

Would I recommend the Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb Baby travel set?

This set is great if you want to try some Fenty products. For me, the highlighter is the stand out product here and if I run out of this, I would be very much inclined to pick up a full sized product. It’s a highlighter I simply don’t have beyond this product as the formula and effect is very unique compared to other highlighters on the market. The gloss is nice to have, but for me, I now own other glosses that I actually prefer over this one. I like the bit of sparkle it gives, but as you can see in the full face shot, it just ends up look like a bit of a sheen and nothing too wowing when I wear it.

  1. I purchased this very set last year, it is lovely! The high, igniter formula is so unique and I also find the shade works well on my fair skin tone. Fussy is better as a topper, it does look too light on its own.
