Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide serum review

Until fairly recently, I wasn’t aware that Make Up Revolution did a skincare line. I remember there being a bit of hype when this first launched, but I hadn’t heard much about it since. So when I was due a bit of a skincare refresh, I decided to buy one of their products to give it a whirl. I bought the Multi Peptide serum as I tried the one by The Ordinary (The Buffet serum) and loved it, so I thought I could try one by a different brand. Here’s how I got on.

Skincare review: Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide Serum

You can tell, just from looking at the bottle, that this skincare line is very much ‘inspired’ by competitor The Ordinary. From the basic bottle to the dropper to apply it, this product is one that is definitely fashioned after The Ordinary’s way of working. What is good to know is that this is cheaper. The Ordinary’s Buffet serum retails for €14.75, while the Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide serum retails for €11.50. I found these prices on Beauty Bay, but you can of course also shop Make Up Revolution from their official website.

What does this serum have to offer?

The brand promotes this product as being perfect as an anti-aging product as it targets fine lines and should give your tired looking skin a more plumped, more glowy effect. It should not only plump but also firm and smooth the skin. The MUR line is alos vegan and cruelty free and contains not added fragrance. This product therefore really sounded like something I could get down with as I am someone who always looks for product to help with my skin’s moisture barrier and to make my skin look plumper and less dull.

What ingredients does the serum contain?

With skincare it is always important to look into the ingredients, so this is the ingredient list for the Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide serum:

Aqua/Water/EAU, Propanediol, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Disodium EDTA, Carbomer, Hydroxypropyl Cyclodextrin, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate, Polysorbate 20, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7.

As you can see, the list contains mainly water and the peptides aren’t listed until the second half of the list. That isn’t the best as the further down the list an ingredient is, the less of it you get in the product. And that’s exactly my gripe with this one: when I use it feels like I am just applying plain water to the skin and I feel it doesn’t do enough. So let’s get into that now.

How does the serum go on to the skin?

So the first few uses I was quite impressed with this. It is a thin, watery formula that is easy to spread out. I use this product over a face spray so I can get as much moisture into my skin as I can get. However, this product doesn’t contain enough active ingredients for me to really be noticing that this does anything for my skin than giving it a minor drink of water and the reason for that is the formulation. For comparison: The Ordinary’s Buffet serum has hydrating ingredients such as glycerin and several peptides at the top of the ingredient list. This doesn’t and I feel it therefore doesn’t do enough for me. Not saying this is a bad product, I just feel that my dry, dehydrated skin needs a bit more than what this gives me.

My final thoughts

As with any product I purchase I always hope to fall in love with it and that just isn’t the case for me and the Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide serum. While this sounded promising, it just isn’t formulated in a way that it helps my skin. It isn’t hurting it either though as I never got an allergic reaction to this and I’m about 2/3 of the way done with it and have been using it daily for a few weeks now. This feels pleasant enough, but I need about 1.5 droppers worth of product and that means I am also going through this quite quickly. For the price point, I just don’t think this is worth it in the end. I’d rather spend a bit more and get a more potent product that I need less of and gets me better results.

Would I recommend the Make Up Revolution Multi Peptide serum?

I am always unsure about recommending skincare as everyone’s skin is so different. If you have dry/ dehydrated skin like me, then I don’t think you will like this much as it just doesn’t do enough to really get that moisture into the skin and really plump it up and making it look healthy. This may therefore be better for people with normal to oily skin types as this may be a bit more lightweight and still offer you the benefits of a peptide serum. However, I think there are better peptide products on the market than this, so I wouldn’t necessarily run out to buy this either.
