The first Gucci lipstick I bought? Their Rouge à Lèvres Voile lipstick in 201 The Painted Veil. But I didn’t review it yet! And it is such a good nude lipstick. So let me rave about this stunner of a lipstick.
Now, if this lipstick looks familiar to you, then you may be right. I did film my entire Gucci lipstick collection last winter. When I felt I had enough of these to get a feel for the full line, I decided to film that. I also did already review the other lipstick I have in this formula: Mae Coral.
Review: Gucci Rouge à Lèvres Voile lipstick 201 The Painted Veil
Gucci makeup has been becoming easier and easier to get a hold of. There are several counters and there are several online stores that stock them. They are expensive though! When I bought this, it retailed for €40 but now this goes for €47. Not sure I would be willing to pay nearly 50 euros for a single lipstick. These are nice, but not that nice.
What does this product have to offer?
What I love about the Gucci lipstick line is the fact that there are four formulas that each come in a bunch of shades with lots of shades being offered in every formula. This means that if you find a shade you like you can get it in a different formula very easily.
The four formulas are: matte, satin, voile and brillant. The matte is the most intense pigmentation, the brillant formula is the sheerest. That is why I love the Voile and why it was my first choice: this is a thin, sheer lipstick that can be build up in intensity but still has a creamy formula.
Why did I pick this shade?
Because these are so expensive, I decided to buy two of each of the four formulas and my first pick was this shade. The reason? Because it is one of the best nudes for me. It looks a bit warm toned perhaps, but wait till you see what happens when it is on your lips.
I have said this many times but one of my reasons for loving high end lipstick is because the shades are just much more interesting than at a drugstore price point. And Painted Veil is definitely one of them. This looks like a warm peach in the tube, but on my lips it is a perfect my lips but better shade.
What does this looks like in a swatch?
Ta-dah! It is a peach? Is it a rose? Who know, what I do know is that The Painted Veil has the perfect blend between a warm tone and a cool tone that just works for me. Combined with the creamy and luminous voile formula this is quite perfectly lipstick perfection.
One thing to note though is the scent. The Gucci line has a floral fragrance and in the lipsticks it is quite strong. And it is not a nice floral scent. It is a heady floral scent that reminds me of potpourri or grandmas. It does disappear quickly so I don’t mind it but it is good to be mindful of it if that is something you find important.
Should you buy the Gucci Voile lipstick in Painted Veil?
As you can see The Painted Veil in the voile lipstick range from Gucci is a great nude lipstick that goes on beautifully. It doesn’t have the longest wear time, though it does last well until lunch time. So a good 4 – 5 hours.
I love this shade on me as it goes with many different looks and this lipstick will just work. It is a very safe bet and not one I would have picked if I hadn’t seen this in real life. And that is something I would recommend you do if you wish to buy a Gucci lipstick.
The main reason why I recommend looking at these in stores is because you need to see these to really see the shades. Because there are so many and because the differences can be subtle, the line will have something that is right for you, but it may be difficult to find online.
So should you run out and get this? No, because this is horribly expensive for a lipstick. But if you want that treat yourself moment, then this is a perfect pick.
