My vacation/ summer soundtrack

It’s summer and for me that meant I went on vacation. Since I went all by myself I needed something to keep me company and music is always a safe bet in my case. So before I left, I stocked up on a bunch of new music. Naturally I had a few songs pop up at random moments that now make them more memorable and I would like to share these with you, including some new songs that I have been digging lately. I guess you could call this my 2012 summer music list.

James Vincent McMorrow – And if my heart should somehow stop

Imagine yourself lying on Centre Island in Toronto, Canada and then suddenly this songs comes on. Perfection.

Marcus Foster – Movement

This song came on while I was on the train from Boston to New York City. I put it on repeat for about 30 minutes right when the music started to swell up I saw the New York skyline in the distance. I kept singing for the rest of my stay in NYC.

Pete & The Pirates – United

For some reason this song came up on my playlist several times. It’s got a nice rhythm and I literally walked to the beat when I toured most of Toronto by foot.

BeachesBeaches – Got Feel

Song that I am currently digging. It breathes cruising the streets while the sun is setting.

Choir of Young Believers – Hollow Talk (Oliver Schories Edit)

I bought their album on a whim from my local record store and instantly took a liking to the album version of this song, but then I came across this remix/ rework/ edit on one of my playlists. It’s a little slow to start, but it’s a great song.

Ed Sheeran – You Need Me, I Don’t You

Been digging this song for a while now. Love the beat and who knew Ed Sheeran could rap?! (Well, sorta)

Poolside – Slow Down

This song just has the right summer vibe: relax, slow down and take it easy.

Purity Ring – Obedear

I’ve posted their songs before, but I bought their CD when I was in NYC and have been listening to it quite a bit. This is one of my favorites. Love how it is slightly mysterious and dark, yet somehow hopeful.

Sundrenched – Ice Cream Truck

Ah. The band is called sundrenched, the song is called ice cream truck. If that doesn’t breathe summer I don’t know what would! Perfect song for lazy summer days.

Tours – Grand Lux

I don’t know about you, but I’m not yet sick and tired of sampled electro tracks. Tours is my new love.

What are your current summer jams?
