These past week I’ve been too busy to get a good grasp of any of the new music that has been coming out. I haven’t checked any of my trusty indieplaylists since late March and to be honest: I haven’t felt like it one bit. What I tend to do when I am feeling a bit down and out is go back to the things I know. Musically I do so too. Here are some of my old favorites which I rediscovered while listening to one of my playlists. And lo and behold: there is hardly any indie music and some actual main stream stuff in here.
Snow Patrol – Make This Go On Forever
Snow Patrol was my favorite band for like 2 years or so. Right before they hit it super big, but just after they had gain popularity. I saw them live in 2010 in HMH and loved it. Their songs always make me feel good. Make This Go On Forever is one of my favorites.
Johnny Flynn – The Box
Skip to 2 mins to hear the actual song. One of my faves by Johnny Flynn and when I found out that he will be touring again soon and has been working on new music I literally punched the air. His voice is amazing. This song never fails to put a smile on my face.
The XX – Crystalised
One of my go to ZZZZzzz/ relax songs. I have a new song for that purpose now so I don’t hear this too often anymore, but when I do I still love it every time. Minimalistic and soothing: this song is perfect for unwinding at the end of the day. Especially if the video is timed with one of Rob Pattinson’s best photoshoots :-).
Mumford & Sons – Hold on to what you believe in
The first song by Mumford & Sons I heard. They are booming now, but this song, to me, still epitomizes their music: folky, slightly dramatic, with great rhythms. This song is not on their first album (at least not on my edition), so this much have been some EP. Anyhow: it’s Mumford & Sons as Mumford & Sons were meant to sound.
Something Corporate – Konstantine
I love me some epic sad drama from time to time. This song sums that up nicely. It’s a lengthy song but well worth the listen. This goes back to my emo days (yes I went through that phase as well) and have had this for a long time, known it for even longer.
Justin Timberlake – Lovestoned/ I Think That She Knows
I love-love-loved JT’s Future Sex Love Sounds album. I listened to it over and over and over again back in 06 and 07. Lovestoned is my current favorite, but I could have listed the entire album. Other faves: Losing my Way, My Love, What Goes Around and Summer Love. I can’t wait for the 20/20 experience part 2 to be released next fall.
What songs did you used to like that you started listening to again.
