Lookbook 2014: floral summer

Summer has left us it seems at times, but officially it’s still summer of course. For another 9 days to be exact. And in a way this is a bit of a transitional lookbook anyway. With tights, a blazer or a sweater all these floral dresses instantly become perfect for transitional weather. In any case, that’s how I’ve been wearing my dresses as of late. And this lookbook is heavy on Forever 21 dresses, because they simply do the best ones. Forever 21 dresses are prefect if you’re short, plus they have a wide selection of shapes, prints and colors and they’re not expensive. So without further ado, I present you with my final summer lookbook.

1.) Got grunge?

Floral dress (Forever 21)
Black cardigan (GAP)
Black cut out boots (New Look)

To make this outfit a bit more weather appropriate, all you need is a pair of black tights. Not only would that protect you against the elements, it would also allow you to make this look even more grunge like. The black floral dress darkens up the look and paired with more black, messy hair and a red lip it makes for a shabby chique vibe that looks like it comes straight from a Nirvana video.

2.) Delft blue

Dress (Forever 21)
Shoes (Van Haren)

This dress reminds me of classic delftware. The bright blue color lifts the dress and the fit is spot on. I added a pair of white heels to make the outfit more warm weather appropriate, but I also own a pair of bright blue heels which would go perfectly with this dress. This dress is also easy to adapt to slightly cooler weather. It is made of a fairly thick material and completely lined, so this is definitely a dress that is great for the transitional weather we’ve been having.

3.) The classic skater dress

Dress (H&M)
Converse
Statement necklace (Primark)

This tiny tiny floral print dress is one of my favorites and one that has been in my wardrobe for a long time. I love pairing this with sneakers for that casual sporty vibe. The shape of the dress is the classic skater dress cut, which works nicely if you have a naturally curvy body shape. It hugs you in all the right places. The print is miniscule and a fun combination of pastels, brights and blacks, making it suitable for any season.

4.) Sweet daisy

Dress (Forever 21)
Flatts (Primark)
Belt (H&M)
Necklace (Ebay)

The best floral print? Daisies! For real, daisies have become my favorite floral print in the past year or so. They are cute, girly and depending on how the print looks, they can make your look girly and feminine or fun and casual. This lightweight jersey material dress in a light cream color is perfect for warmer days and easy to throw on when you don’t know what to wear. I love wearing these color schemes with tan accessories and I added the dragonfly necklace to emphasize the natural element of the flowers.

5.) Retro in red

Shirt dress (Forever 21)
Brown heels (H&M)
Belt (Primark)
Necklace (Spital Fields)

The last floral print outfit is another dress, but this time a shirt dress with pleats along the side. The buttons, the collar and overall shape of this dress give it an instant retro vibe. And of course I couldn’t make a new lookbook without somehow featuring the color red. It’s my favorite color and so it crops up in most of my outfit posts. Since I’m a little too curvy for this dress, I added a belt around my waist to ensure the dress stays put around my mid section. To prevent the not so flattering look of gaping buttons on the chest area I’ve used a safety pin to hold the fabric together.

How do you wear floral prints?
