1920s Flapper Girl Vintage Hair, Make Up, Nails & Outfit

Last Sunday, I attended a vintage party again which my friend organizes once a year. I already created a 50s look, a Rockabilly 50s look, a 40s Hollywood pin up girl look, and a Roaring 20s flapper girl look for the very first edition. Since it would be the 5th time I would be attending, I decided to revisit the 1920s look as I think my make up skills have improved and because I am now better at taking pictures. I also decided to turn this into a tutorial type video in which I show you how I did my nails, my hair and my make up and I’m also showing you my outfit at the end. All that rests is to hope you enjoy this post and video and let me know in a comment below what you think of it.

The 1920s were all about dark make up (think panda bear eyes with blacks, charcoal greys and burgundies), low waist dresses and finger weave bobs. So I tried to recreate that look to the best of my abilities. Especially noticeable about 1920s make up is the exaggerated lips with a well-defined cupid’s bow and drawn smaller than your own lips. Brows were thin, long and dark, making for a ‘sad’ eye look and skin was pale (paler than your natural skin if possible) and matte to the extreme. Blush was piled on, but not too colorful. Shoes were lowheeled and dresses hit just below the knee, showing just enough leg when you got your dance on with the Charleston.

To continue the dark tones, the nails were also painted in dark shades. Hair was preferably worn short and since I didn’t want to cut my hair (nor shave off my eyebrows for just one night) I decided to make a faux bob. I did a quick finger weave on the front sections of my hair after curling it. I gunked up my hair using dry shampoo and gave texture to it with some volume mousse. I nourished my hair with some moisturizes and sprayed on lots and lots of hairspray for that extra hold. I actually wore the hairstyle to work the next day as I didn’t have time to wash my hair. I simply wrapped a scarf around my head and it miraculously survived the night. Some colleagues students actually thought I had cut my hair.
