10 wardrobe essentials

Fashion wise I’m a fairly outgoing person. Just the other day, a colleague mentioned how she liked the fact that I always wear dresses and most of them with fun prints and colors. I look different from most people, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like a good staple. There are a few items that I make sure to always have on hand. And this is them.

Leather jacket

It took a while before I got my hands on a leather jacket I liked. I ended up with this moto jacket by Mango. I found it on sale at a complete steal. Leather jackets are great because you can wear them almost all year round and they will last a long time.

Denim blouse

I love myself some denim. Jackets, jeans, you name it, but a denim blouse has been something I make sure to always have in my wardrobe. This one, from H&M, is in fact a men’s shirt and I like it better than any other denim blouse I ever owned. It is big and baggy and since it’s made of a quite thick material, I sometimes wear this as outerwear.

Grey boxy t-shirt

Grey t-shirt are the life source of my wardrobe. I own so many of them and I reach for them more quickly than a white or black shirt. Since grey is in between those two colors, I find it goes with everything and is much more versatile. I like my t-shirts to be quite boxy, as I like that shape most on my body type. This shirt is from H&M.

Thin knit sweater

You may know I like my H&M and they always do these thin knit sweaters. I find them very handy and own a few in different textures and colors. This cream one is a favorite and I wear it year round. It goes with jeans, skirts, and they make for great layering piece too.

Comfy cardigan

I love myself a good cardigan. They are comfortable, keep you warm and you can throw them on with almost everything. Urban Outfitters is my favorite place to shop for a cardigan. This one in particular is a favorite. From the color to the texture, to the length and the fact that I have had this for years and it still looks good: it is a great piece to own and one of my most worn pieces.

White blouse

A white blouse can amp up any outfit. If you need a bit of class in an outfit, a white blouse is such a great way of easily adding that little bit of sophistication. I have several white blouses and I find that the best white blouse to own is one with the fewest amount of texture, no pockets and hidden button placate. This flowy chiffon number with a Peter Pan collar is from H&M.

Skater skirt

Almost any skirt I own are skater skirts (this also goes for most of my dresses). It is a skirt shape that works best for me and so it’s a staple. For a fun, flirty look, I love adding a print or a bright pop of color like this red one which I bought on sale from H&M last year.

Highwaisted jeans

It doesn’t matter what type of jeans you have, as long as you have a pair that suits you. In my case, the most flattering jeans on me are highwaisted skinny jeans. My favorite ones are the Jamie jeans by Topshop. These grey ones are my favorites and because I love them so much, I bought them again, but with a ripped knee detail earlier this year.

Black low Converse all stars

A pair of sneakers should be part of every wardrobe. I have worn these converse sneakers to death. They came with me on every trip I took ever since I bought them 6 years ago and they are a little bit worse for wear by now. I find they go with everything for a casual touch and the black and white is just a straight up classic combination.

Chelsea boots

Last but not least, a pair of ankle boots is another musthave in any wardrobe. My favorite are Chelsea boots. I own at least 5 different pairs which all differ in style and height. From wedges and 5 inch heels, to a higher or lower shaft: these go with everything from jeans to dresses and they are mostly very comfortable to wear too.

As you can see I didn’t feature any dresses in this post and I do wear them quite a bit. To me, dresses fall in their own category as they pretty much make up a complete outfit in one go. I could do a separate post with my 10 must have dresses to complete the picture.
