Colourpop Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks

Now that Colourpop has been releasing many new makeup products, the attention for the brand seems to have shifted to those newer products. But I like kicking it back old school and focus on some of their OG products. I already reviewed a few of their Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks a while ago, but since I loved them, I decided to get a few more. This time round, I focused on adding some nudes to the collection.  colourpop ultra satin liquid lipstick review swatch echo park dopey frick n' frack

The Colourpop line is known for its overall affordability. Liquid lipsticks retail for $6 a piece and I got these on a discount deal earlier in the year. The only thing that makes Colourpop quite expensive when you’re not in the US is the shipping. The shipping and handling fees are off the chain, so I always try to order when they have a free shipping deal on and then I try to keep my order under the โ‚ฌ22 mark. That is the amount you are allowed to import free from an additional customs charge.

Echo Park

Echo Park is a warm peachy nude according to Colourpop and I wouldn’t agree more. I am usually not a big fan of peachy nudes, but this one is surprisingly flattering. It is neutral enough to go with many looks, but the peachiness still adds a bit of extra interest.

Dopey

Dopey is a mauve shade that keeps the perfect middle ground between pink and purple. It is therefore much more cool toned than Echo Park, which I personally love. I love a mauvy nude shade any time of the day. It is simply my favorite type of lip color.

Frick N’ Frack

With my order, I was allowed to choose a freebee and I chose this mini Frick N’ Frack Ultra Satin Lip. I actually wanted the full size, but it was out of stock. So this was a great alternative. This is described as a rosy terracotta: it is a little darker than your average nude, but still very wearable.

The Swatches

Swatchy swatch time! On the left are the fresh swatches. On the right you can see what these look like once they dry down. They turn a little bit darker once they dry, especially dopey, which is quite typical for many liquid lipsticks. Shades that look very nude in the tube, thus always turn out a little darker than you had expected, especially with Colourpop’s formula.

Compared to their Ultra Matte formula, the Ultra Satin Lip is extremely comfortable. They dry down and stay on well, but do not feel dry on the lips. There is transfer with these though, but I have had no issue with feathering or lasting power with them either. I can see why everyone likes this one most. I still prefer the Ultimate Matte though: that is truly budgeproof and lasts all day. This does require a touch up after 5 – 6 hours.

The Application

Echo Park is surprisingly wearable. I have a problem pulling of peach tones as I am so neutral undertoned. Anything super warm can make me look quite dead, but this keeps a great middleground. It looks a little bit more brown on me and reminds me a lot of MAC’s Velvet Teddy.

Dopey has to be my fave. This is my kind of nude! I love nudes with a purple undertone as I find them the easiest to pull off with my skin tone. This pulls quite pink on me, but it has enough purple in it to show up mauve. This will be a staple color in my lipstick routine.

Frick N’ Frack is another stunning shade, but because it is darker, I can’t really wear this in the winter time. I am simply a touch too pale for it. In the summer though with a little bit of a tan (or lots of bronzer) this is a stunning shade. I especially love wearing this with a bronze smokey eye.

The Conclusion

I already knew that I would love the Colourpop Ultra Satin liquid lipsticks as I had tried some before. These shades are however much more wearable than the first batch I bought. I like a good statement lip, but it is also great to own a few great nudes in a comfortable formula. As these aren’t entirely budgeproof I prefer the nudes in this range as it looks a little less crazy when they wear off.

  2. […] Colourpop Ultra Satin liquid lipstick Echo Park – Liquid lipstick had a real moment in my makeup routine this month. I am all about a longlasting lipstick look and on a hot day there is nothing that stays put better than a liquid lipstick. I rediscovered this shade in my stash, when I did my Nude Lipstick Collection video. I decided to bust it out straightaway. […]
