Styling sweaters for spring

It’s spring, well almost, but even though spring is here, it can still be cold. That is why it is still a good idea to have a few sweaters that you can pull out. But since it’s spring, those heavy, bulky, dark cable knits are a tad boring and perhaps too warm. That is why this blog post is all about the perfect spring sweater: lightweight, colorful and easy to combine.  styling sweaters for spring

I love a pastel sweater, with a sea foam green being my favorite. This has a stiff, almost linen thread and therefore the material is warm, yet breathable. Since the color is quite sweet, I like pairing it with a pleather skirt and cut out boots. Something to toughen it up, to add more of an edge and put a feminine element in an outfit that would otherwise be rather shapeless.

Colorful sweaters are also a great option for spring. This sweater is a lot brighter in real life than it shows up on camera. It is a bright, neon peach. It has an open knit, which again makes this perfect for spring. I love pairing it with a pair of acid wash jeans. Years ago I wore this paired with mint green, but it also goes well with earthy neutrals.

A simple outfit that is a much more easy to wear as it is super neutral for the most part is this one. The sweater is a cotton knit that is a breathable material and I love pulling it out in transitional seasons. Since it’s grey, it works in spring and fall, can be combined with many other colors and works in almost any outfit. So to keep this outfit from getting boring, I threw in a wildcard in the form of shoes. The skirt is what keeps the outfit grounded and keeps it from going overboard.

For spring 2018, lavender is one of the IT colors to invest in. I have had this particular sweater for years. It is a cable knit, so it’s quite warm, but the color is perfect for pulling out in spring. I like pairing it with a pair of distressed jeans to keep the outfit from looking stuffy. Clarks Desert Boots are another great pairing here: it is one of my favorite pairs of shoes to wear in the spring time and the neutral color makes it very easy to pair.

Spring time also means pulling out my sneakers. I like how they make for comfy, casual outfits and what better way to make such an outfit than with an off the shoulder sweater? This sweater was a great find: it is chunky, it’s comfy, but it isn’t too stuffy. The off the shoulder detail makes this a great statement sweater. Despite it’s understated color, this sweater is the center piece of this otherwise basic outfit.

    • Ah no, I wouldn’t wear them in Texas! I live a place where spring can be quite cool and rainy for weeks. So here’s to hoping I won’t be needing these for very long.
