Styling pastel items

You say spring, I say pastel. I don’t wear pastels much, but when I do it is always in the spring time. It is simply the best season for all the lighter colors. I have a few items that I love and I decided to style them up how I love to wear them. Some of the outfits have been styled up to show you that pastels don’t just have to be worn in the spring time. If you pair them with darker colors than they also work well year round. Let’s get to the outfits.

This first outfit is also my favorite. It is an outfit that I wear to work, but I’ve also worn it to dinners, parties and other special occasions. This dress is one that I bought on Asos years ago and I don’t bust it out as much as I should. It is a lovely number, but because it has a full lace back it definitely needs a jacket on top. I love pairing this dress with white shoes and white everything as it nicely clashes with the baby blue of the dress.

Outfit number 2 is all about dusty pink. This outfit is also a great way to show you how pastels can also work in the fall time. I love clashing dusty rose with burgundy as I feel the two colors really complement each other. Paired with a fun cardigan and a neutral show, the outfit isn’t too wild. The pink shirt is one that works year round and I love how it has a texture to it, which means it pairs well with almost anything.

Mint green is NOT my color. I feel it washes me out, but I have a few items that I like. Case in point, this blouse. I really like this blouse as it is so different. It has a lace crochet collar and this metal balls for buttons. The blouse is quite sheer so I wanted to juxtapose that with something a bit sturdier. Cue the shoes: these mint green creepers are quite the statement shoe. I don’t wear them much as they are a light green suede that gets dirty very easily. But on nice spring days I love wearing them and I always get loads of compliments on them too.

With pastels, you can also create a monochrome outfit. All the items in this outfit have a blue/ grey tone to them and I just tried to keep that color scheme going throughout the outfit. The top is quite boring as it is just a jersey top with a fluted sleeve. So to spice it up a bit, I paired it with a nearly metallic skirt and a pair of chunky heeled boots. These boots are great to wear in the spring as they are a boot, but the color makes them very suitable for pairing with lighter outfits.

The final outfit I have for you is another one that show you how to work in pastels year round. Mint green is a great shade for pairing with blacks as well. It is a good alternative for white if that is a bit too bright and stark for you. A mint green pairs well, makes the outfit pop, yet doesn’t come with the same risk of not looking nice throughout the day. This blouse in particular is a great staple in my wardrobe. I got it years ago and I have worn it so much to job interviews and other more dressed up occasions, which is why I actually styled it more casually here as I haven’t been wearing it much as I now associate this blouse with more formal outfits.

How do you wear pastel?

    • Ooh good one indeed. I love a mint green & white polka dot. That is definitely a print I hope to hunt down this season. It is super retro and I love that vibe.
