One of my favorite affordable primers? The Catrice Light Correcting Serum Primer. Catrice are fairly good at doing primers to begin with. I also love their hydrating primer, so when I saw them doing a new shade in one of my favorite primer formulas, you know I had to try it. This claims to be the same primer as the Light Correcting primer, save for the shade. Is this as good? And could this possibly a dupe for a much more expensive Becca primer?

Catrice Light Correcting Serum Primer 030 Morning Glow

First things first: this primer is very affordable, but you don’t get a whole lot of product. It comes with just 14 mls of product which is half of what you usually get in a primer. It retails for €4.59 so that is okay. However, taking into account that you only get half the amount of product, this does to nearly €10 for a standard 30 mls. That makes it more like NYX/ Maybelline prices, not Catrice. Additionally, this will of course run out a lot more quickly too, so you will have to repurchase much more quickly. Typically, this gives you roughly 6 weeks of product with daily use.

The Packaging

Morning Glow is one out of three shades available now. There is the original shade, but they also do a more bronze toned shade. That is great, because that way there is a different primer for different under tones. This primer comes in a glass bottle which makes it look much more luxurious than this product most definitely is.

The Dropper

Despite the name, I do think that there may be a bit of a difference in formula between the different shades. Where the original was very liquidy and easy to apply from the dropper, this is quite thick and is difficult to get sucked up by the dropper. I have gotten to the point where it is simply easier to pour out the primer rather than using the dropper. Perhaps I just got a bit of a weird one, but the texture of this is quite thick and I have had the same problem with some of their liquid highlighters that come in similar packaging.

The Swatch

So while this feels much thicker than the original style, this is still not a thick primer that is heavy on silicones. In fact, this is still very thin compared to many other primers. It is most definitely a water based primer and this is one of those primers that easily spreads out, blends into the skin like a dream and does not feel heavy once applied. This primer feels nice and lightweight and packs a good deal of glow.

The Application

Don’t believe me? Here you can see my face on the left without any product on. To the right is my face with the primer applied. It looks like you have doused your face in liquid highlighter! It is quite a strong glow and the pink undertone of this makes this quite cool toned so this won’t suit everyone. It is that undertone that really reminds me of the Becca First Light Priming Filter but I have yet to put them side by side. But that also has a very cool toned shade to it and packs a ton of glow once applied.

The main reason for applying primer for me though isn’t just glow though. I need it to make my makeup last. And that is something this primer does very nicely as well. Without a decent primer I feel my makeup doesn’t wear for as long and I feel that with this particular primer it works just as well as some of the high end primers I’ve tried. I even wore this to dance evenings and my makeup stays looking decent all night long.

The Conclusion

If you are looking for a good, affordable, drugstore primer than the Catrice Light Correcting Serum Primer in Morning Glow is a good one. It is as good as the original, but I think I prefer this shade on me a little bit better. That said though, the formula is a bit thicker which makes this more difficult to apply and I feel I am running out of it more quickly too. These are small downsides though that I would be happy to deal with on a daily basis.
