Colourpop Dream Street

Is this my first Colourpop eyeshadow palette review? Yes it is. I have not yet reviewed Colourpop palettes. I have reviewed their eyeshadow singles and supershock shadows (spoiler alert: love them), but never their palettes. Why? Because I was overwhelmed. If there is one brand that churns out releases it is Colourpop and so I just couldn’t choose. When I decided to commit last year and try one, I decided to go with an OG and super popular one: the Dream Street palette.

Colourpop X Kathleen Lights Dream Street eyeshadow palette // Review, Swatch, Makeup Look

This was part of a Kathleen Lights collab that happened a while ago now, but due to popular demand this is one of the older palettes that is still in Colourpop’s line. It retails for $20 but Colourpop do sales so frequently that you do not have to buy it for that price point. If you are in Europe, I recommend waiting for free international shipping or a massive discount that actually makes it worth it to get a product. Colourpop’s shipping is not too bad, but the shipping and handling fees can be and also processing and shipping of orders to Europe can take up to 6 weeks, so beware!

The Packaging

For a long time Colourpop palettes came in the same style of cardboard packaging. I think all of their 12 pan palettes still do. There are no mirror, you just get a simple magnetic closure and that’s it. It’s fuss free and easy to use. The design of the palette is cute and very on point for Kathleen Lights and it goes well with the shades inside.

The Palette

Inside you get 12 pans in total in this palette. It favors mattes over shimmers with 7 mattes and 5 shimmers. One of the shimmers is a duo chrome shade called Kaleidoscope which is stunning. The palette is quite warm toned and neutral, but there are a few pops of color which favor corals and teals.

The Shades

Sadly, like other affordable brands I don’t find all the shades in this palette unique when you put them all together and apply them to your eye. What looks disctinct in the pan is not that distinct once applied. Especially the three warm toned shimmers all look quite similarly with one being a bit peachier or coppery than the others, but I hardy notice that on the eye.

But I think you can guess why I picked up this palette: the teals. I love teals, but I would pair them with cool toned rather than warm toned shadows. So this palette also pushed me out of my comfort zone and you know I like a challenge when it comes to eyeshadow. I think it works quite well as a clash in this palette, but as you will see below, you can also use this for a very neutral look if you do not pull in the pops of color.

The Swatches

Quality wise this palette is quite possibly one of the best ones Colourpop do. I think that because they release so many products that it leads to not all of their products being of high quality as there is a general lack of quality control. But this palette is a banger. It has great pigmentation, easy blendability and it is very similar to how I have experienced using my Colourpop singles. You do get smaller pans when you buy Colourpop palettes compared to the singles so that is something to bear in mind.

3 Looks, 1 Palette

Look 1: The Neutrals

I went with a very safe first look and just used the most neutral shades in the palette. It is warm toned and quite peachy but it is still pretty on the eyes. This is great for everyday wear and you get enough shades that you can even create some variation if you pull in the dark brown to take it more from day to night. Not a very special look, because I feel this is a look you could create with almost any palette that has a peach.

Look 2: The Teals

But you knew I had to let those teals shine. As you can see this palette does not have a neutral or cool toned transition that would go with these shades much better in my opinion. All you get is warm tones and that doesn’t always go together. I was able to make it work, mainly because that matte teal works so gorgeously in the Outer V. On the lid I have used Kaleidoscope as I feel it is the only lighter shimmer that really goes with these shades in the palette. This have to be my favorite look I created with this palette.

Look 3: The Warms & a Pop of Teal

Finally, I wanted ot see if I could do a mix of both the warms and cools. My favorite way of doing that is to do one color on the top and one on the bottom. I love a teal on the lower lash line, so that is what I did here. I also used the coral shade in the crease and I think it looks very pretty. A bit warmer than I would like to go to but this is my second favorite look here as it is more unique than what you can do with most neutral palettes.

Would I Recommend?

The Colourpop X Kathleen Lights Dream Street palette is a Colourpop staple of a reason. It totally lives up to the hype for me and it has outstanding quality for the price point. I love the teals in this palette and that is what I know I will reach for in this palette the most. It is a great palette that has a unique twist and has good quality at an affordable price. What more could a girl want?
