Are you ready for a massive review? Because yes, today I am reviewing not one, but five palettes all in one go. Case in point? The first five Futurism palettes by Kaleidos. Now if you saw yesterday’s video you may already know a bit how I feel but I also wanted to do a dedicated review including not only swatches but also some looks I did with these palettes. Because a finger swatch only tells us so much about a product: it’s when you apply it that you can truly see how good these shadows are. So let’s get stuck in and review the Kaleidos Futurism eyeshadow palettes I-V.

Review: Kaleidos Makeup Futurism eyeshadow palette Sci-fi Green, Cyber Bronze, Astro Pink, VR Neon, Electro Turquoise

Let’s first talk availability and price point, because sadly not all of these palettes are still available. Luckily for you, my favorite two palettes ARE still available so that’s great. These palettes now retail for about €20 from the official Kaleidos Makeup website (not to be confused with Kaleidos Cosmetics, which is a wholly different brand). I bought these as a bundle which meant I actually got a bit of a deal on this and if I remember correctly I also bought these during a sale. I do think the palettes have gone up slightly since I bought them because I remember paying around $18 for each palette.

Their shipping isn’t outrageously expensive for an international brand so that is good to know. What is also good to know is that the brand website is in English and prices are listed in dollars sometimes, the orders are shipped directly from China where the palettes are produced. Now let’s take a look at each individual palette before we wrap it up and talk quality and my overall thoughts and feelings about these palettes.

Kaleidos Makeup Futurism I Sci-Fi Green

The Sci-Fi green palette is one that drew me in instantly when I spotted it and it was one that got rave reviews from lots of different people in the beauty community. Compared to Melt’s Gemini (which I will be reviewing for you finally before the month is out), this palette features a couple of stunning shades. By now the palette is no longer available, but there are rumors that the palette is being reformulated and then brought back. When or whether this will happen I cannot be sure of, so let’s just look at how pretty this is.

The Sci-Fi Green palette is one that is that grungy color story that many of us love. It features dirty golds, mustardy browns and olive greens and a stunning matte black. For me the two shimmers could have been more distinct and I would have like one of them to be more green. Same for the two green mattes: on me, they kind of look the same. Now what I rate Kaleidos for mostly is their shimmer formula. Their mattes can be a bit patchy and not show up great in a finger swatch, but applied to the eyes is where this formula truly comes to life.

Since this is just a 6-pan palette I used every shade in it to create all of the looks in this blog post including this one! As you can see the shimmers are stunning (but still not green enough for my liking) and the mustard brown is a stunning matte that works well in the crease. The greens were a bit patchy, the gold was stunning on the lower lash line and the black is dark enough to make it look like you are wearing liquid liner without the hassle. If you love greens, if you have an olive undertone definitely keep an eye out on Kaleidos’ Instagram to see if the relaunch rumors are true. In the mean time, you could try their new Flower Punk palette as the greens in that seem to overlap quite a bit.

Kaleidos Makeup Futurism II Cyber Bronzer

Who is fed up with all the world believing we should all be wearing warm toned eyeshadows? Me (well partly, I like warm tones too, don’t get me wrong, but I am still longing for more brands to do good/ better cool toned palettes, Kaleidos included). Because Cyber Bronzer is probably my least favorite palette from the bunch. Yes, it’s great quality and has two stand out shades, but it’s also a bit boring, a bit deep and far too warm toned for my complexion as you can see below. Quality wise this is probably one of the better ones, but since these shadows didn’t blend well into my skin tone, they do look quite patchy on me.

Cyber Bronzer is a 6-pan palette that features a rose toned bronze, a red shimmer, a stunning silver and three mattes that cover a range of warm toned browns. You get a spicy cinnamon shade, another mustard and a deeper brown. Now here you can clearly see what I mean when I say that these shades can look a bit patchy. The matte dark brown just isn’t as saturated in a finger swatch as it could have been. The silver and red shimmers however are my sole reason for keeping this palette around. That silver is one of the best silvers in my collection for sure.

As you can see in this look, these shades just aren’t for me. I think if you have a warmer undertone these will look great on you, but on me? Nah, it’s too warm toned. The mattes look patchy as they don’t blend in well enough with my cool undertone and the tones of the palette are just such a stark contract with my natural skin color that it’s a bit jarring. This is another discontinued palette and therefore I don’t think you should go out of your way to buy this palette. There are plenty of other warm toned palettes on the market and I don’t believe in buying palettes for just one shade so if you wanted it for the silver, then I would recommend buying an actual single as that would be much more worth your while.

Kaleidos Makeup Futurism III Astro Pink

I told you two of my favorites are still available and this would be one of them. Astro Pink is perhaps one of the more unique color stories done by Kaleidos and it definitely pays off. The shimmers are great, the mattes are decent and there is less overlap in terms of color. The outer box is stunning too (they all are, but I just like the way this looks the most) and you know that I love a good teal so that make this palette an instant winner in my book.

Need I say more? You get two matte transitions that would well on my skin tone, but again, they are quite similar in tone which does not make this a perfect palette by any means. Also, for a palette called Astro Pink, this really isn’t that pink. It’s more of a plum/ mauve palette. But who cares? At the end of the day what matters most is how these shades perform on the lid and that is something this palette is great at. I don’t love the black with sparse glitter but it can be used as a base for the teal in case you want to do a smokey look.

Come again I hear you say? Yes, this is what the Astro Pink looks like on me. That teal shimmer is life and where you can sheer it out to reveal the plum base, I like to just pack this onto the lid and foil it into oblivion and the result is a stunning teal blue shade that will amp up any look. Another favorite shade in the palette is the lilac shimmer. It’s like the silver in the Cyber Bronzer, only with a hint of lilac running through making it super special as I don’t own anything like it in my collection. And that is quite a feat because I own a tonne of shadow.

Kaleidos Makeup Futurism IV Vr Neon

So far we have looked at the first three Futurism palettes that released. The brand later came out with an additional two, one of which was Kaleidos take on a bright rainbow palette. The VR Neon is no longer available and was in the end labelled as being limited edition, so this will definitely not be making a comeback. Since this was released later the packaging also changed and I wished they had kept the vibe of the first 3 palettes instead. This looks more like a modern painting rather than those swirly blobs.

What are the swatches and color story like?

The VR Neon palette is not quite a rainbow palette though. It’s bright, but it’s not quite neon either. It is a pretty though and it features two of the best shimmers in Kaleidos’ entire line. The mattes in here are perhaps the most difficult to work with in all of Kaleidos’ palettes. These are quite sheer and patchy. They can be build up though and work well enough with a brush application, but I definitely have better brights in my collection. That pink shimmer though?! It’s one of the best pink shades in my collection for sure.

Even though these brights aren’t my favorite, they are still very stunning once applied to the eyes. I went for a sunset like crease here and popped the pink and orange shimmers onto the lid. The green is a bit of an odd shade here and I feel it is a bit of an outlier in the palette. However, I think if you pair it with the yellow and the pink it can still be very pretty. So for a small, curated bright palette which is usually a very limited affair, I can instantly see another 2 – 3 looks I could do with just this palette for sure. And that means it’s a lot more versatile than you might expect as first glance.

Kaleidos Makeup Futurism V Electro Turquoise

Last but certainly not least is another favorite of mine: the Electro Turqoise. When this released it was quite possibly the most unique color story on the market and since then other brands have copied or make their on takes on a teal and orange color story. This palette is still available and if you got just one Kaleidos palette, I would make it this one. Because not only is it just 6-pans, it is also versatile and it has a more unique color story to offer.

Like the VR Neon, these mattes do not looks they will perform their best. In this palette, even the shimmers look a bit sheer and patchy. So then why is this my favorite you might ask? Because the colors combine so surprisingly well together it would be a crime not to recommend this palette to you. The orange and brown go very well together but the brown is also deep enough to work together with the matte teal. The turquoise shades are possibly the best in the palette and the like shimmer is a pretty shades that you could use all over the lid, as a topper or as an inner corner highlight.

Boom! Yes, we are ending this palette review with a bang. The way this look came together just took my breath away. The orange is super vibrant and bright and even works on my fair skin tone. The matte brown is THE deepening shade you need to pull the look together and that turquoise shimmer is life (can you just imagine combining it with the teal from the Astro Pink?!!). The two teal mattes play off each other well on the lower lash line and I like that bit of sparkle in the inner corner. And of course here I used all 6 shades, but you could easily to do a full on neutral look with just the brown and the light shimmer. Or if you pull in the orange you can amp that up for a bit of fun and you can also lead with an all teal/ turquoise look. So again, a much more versatile palette than you might assume at first sight.

My final thoughts

Let’s do a bit of a roundup of the Kaleidos Makeup Futurism palettes shall we? I really like all 5 palettes and what they have to offer, but some more than others. The mattes can be a bit sheer and patchy but if you blend them carefully they work well with a brush. If you ask me though, Kaleidos formula shines truly in their shimmers. Some of those shades are also unique and combine that with color stories that not everyone and their mother are doing and you have a recipe to make my beauty loving heart beat a little bit faster.

Would I recommend the Kaleidos Futurism palettes?

I think I went over this quite thoroughly in my review, but I would only recommend one truly and that is the Electro Turquoise. Another safe bet is the Astro Pink from this review. The other palettes have all been discontinued, however their new Flower Punk palette does dupe out some of these palettes as there is quite a bit of overlap. So by now, you may be better off buying that rather than these ones, or wait around for the brand to do some new Futurism palettes before you decide to buy.
