EM Cosmetics Serum Blush review

A product that was in last month’s Shop My Stash that I loved? The EM Cosmetics serum blush in Pink Nectar. I ended up wearing this a lot and so this will be a glowing review as this product is now one of my favorite liquid blushes in my collection: it is super dewy on the cheeks and I love the formula. However, there are a few downsides to bear in mind with this one as well so apart from all the love, I will also be going into some of the drawbacks of this product: from the price point to the packaging. So let’s get started.

Review: EM Cosmetics Color Drops Serum Blush in Pink Nectar

Pink Nectar is one of four EM Cosmetics serum blushes I own. I bought them together with one of the Heaven’s Glow powders and I did that to make the purchase worth it. Not because these are super expensive (they retail for $25 a pop) but because the shipping and handling fees are quite eyewatering if you’re in Europe. On top of that, my local tax office made a mistake and so I paid too much in duties which they still have to repay me. So my first downside to this product is its availability. You can only buy this product from the official website and unless you’re located in the US be prepared to pay close to €50 in additional costs. I let you be the judge whether you find that worth it.

What does this product have to offer?

I decided to get four shades of these when I was on my cream and liquid blush craze last year. I had heard great things about the formula. About how lightweight and dewy this is and how natural it look on the cheeks. There are 8 shades in total and the blush comes in this super cute glass bottle with a dropper. That dropper doesn’t always work that well though but you can find a QR code on the box that allows you to view a video on how to use the product. So downside number two here would be the packaging: it takes a bit of practice to use this and every time you use it, you get more product than you need and you can’t put it back into the bottle.

What is the shade like?

But that’s it in terms of negativity! I love everything else about this product and the first aspect I love is the shades. Pink Nectar was the shade I had expected I would like the least but of the shades I got (which were Venetian Rose, Rose Milk and Cherry Splash), I think this has to be my favorite. It is a fresh peacy pink that looks nice and dewy on the cheeks. Because it is a pink but not too rosy or warm toned, I feel it goes well with my cool toned complexion and fair skin. It makes my skin look fresh and it has a great natural look. Bonus points: this shade goes with every makeup look you are doing, which with many blush shades is rare.

What does the blush swatch like?

As you can see you get quite a generous drop with just one squeeze, provided you use the right technique. When you blend it out you get a stunning shade, but it looks a bit patchy here and there. But that’s the effect of a full on swatch, when you apply this you don’t have to make it look this intense. As you can see here the formula has a beautiful glow to it and I love how dewy this makes my face look. The formula feels hydrating and I know I will love using this in the winter time when my skin gets extra dry. On my dry skin it stayed put well and I had no issues with this fading on me throughout the day.

What does this blush look like on the cheeks?

When you apply this full on, it is a bit too intense for me. That’s why I like to use less product than the one drop for ease of control. What I like to do is put a drop on the back of my hand, dip my finger in and then warm that bit of product up between my fingers. I then tap it onto my cheeks and blend the edges with my makeup sponge. I find that it sheers out beautifully and I get a perfect application every time. Here you can see the before and after so you can see the full effect of the blush. Yes that glow is just from the blush, I had already applied my highlighter before putting on this blush.

My final thoughts

Because of how my EM Cosmetics package arrived and because I was overcharged, I felt a bit negative towards these products at first. But now that I have rotated the products into my active makeup routine, I am finding I love these. The formula is great, the shade is very pretty on and I love what this does for my overall makeup look. The serum blush in Pink Nectar looks fresh and goes well with a more natural makeup look that is great for everyday wear. The only drawbacks here are the price point and ease of availability and that cute but quite impractical packaging.

Would I recommend the EM Cosmetics serum blush in Pink Nectar?

Yes I would! Even though these are expensive I would urge you try this if you love a dewy cheek look. There is a shade for everyone in the range and I think this product is quite possibly one of the more innovative products on the market today. If you are someone who loves packaging and the overall experience of using makeup you will certainly enjoy this. That said, if you want a product that is more cost effective but very similar you can look into the Apieu Juicy Pang blusher in Strawberry, because that product is pretty much a dupe.
